My mate has an MBox and wants to get some decent Bass DI happening, any recommendations on additional pieces of hardware that will help improve his chain ?

Depends on what ur going for. I normally take a split & go BASS GTR > Radial JDI > GAP73 Pre for clean and Sansamp > UA710 for dirty.

You might laugh, but I really like those cheapy Behringer/ART tube preamps for Bass DI duties. If he went for an ART DPS II he could go in through the Mbox's SPDIF inputs and still have the Mbox pre's available aswell.

I used to have exactly that preamp actually. I remember really liking it at the time. Might hunt ebay for a cheap one to give it another go actually.
