I've been looking at a few pieces of equipment to get into recording, but I'd definitely like some opinion. I'm looking to go mic-to-amp direct out with a firewire unit (guitar) so uh...

Finally, also looking into ProTools and Logic for sequencer/mixers. Any suggestions help!

What about the M-Audio UltraLite unit? About $550 at Guitar Center. Lots of ins/outs and I think MIDI as well. I was debating on getting one but decided to keep my Delta66 + Omni Studio (no longer made) 4 in/4 out breakout box. I use the MIDIMan 2x2 for MIDI for my keyboards or the UNO for USB->MIDI interface for the laptop.
