I just updated my acer aspire one d250 with windows 7 and it runs quite fast. I always thought recording with a netbook is something barely possible, but since there are recording solutions for the iphone, why not giving it a try! anyone tried this already? are there any cool programmes capable of running on a netbook? I already upgraded to 2gb ram

I've recorded vocals and guitars (even with ampsims) with my Asus Eee PC 900 (MHz Celeron, 1 Gb RAM, SSD) on several occasions running Cubase (4), Reaper and PT 7.4 on it.

TOTALLY doable if you don't go ballistic on the track count.

Didn't notice huge performance differences between Reaper and Cubase.

I'm not talking about mixing here, then you'll reach your limits rather fast if it's not a super lightweight project. But for tracking guitars and vocals, it's been sufficient. And with freezing, you can take off some CPU load.

I can get a respectable track count playback on my little Medion netbook, but adding FX kills it fairly quickly as it's only an Intel Atom CPU. Probably work as a portable tracking system with a decent USB interface in a pinch.

I've been thinking of getting one of those, don't know yet which model though.

What kind of interface do you use with it?

http://www.thomann.de/fi/alesis_io2.htm or http://www.thomann.de/fi/maudio_fast_track_pro.htm are what I have had in mind. I most probably would use the setup just for guitar and sometimes vocal recording so I really have no need for more than maybe 2 inputs.

I often just used my old Black Box with it, which was sufficient for vocals and directly recorded guitars. Preamp and converters are the same level as the pricier M-Audio interfaces but I could also use PT with it.

Just bought Gabriel's Fast Track Pro to slightly expand my possibilities on the road.
