You cant build a robot cheap. The Hydraulics components alone to make the unit as silent as possible would cost near $2000, this is not something "affordable". If its not silent its completely pointless cause you cant hear the differences in tone as it moves. you would get a ton of noise from the unit moving.

hmm seems like a neat idea if it was more low profile i could see that being useful in a live situation when the one person who knows about mic positioning has to be foh and things get knocked

He didn't because the price point would be too high. he probably spent $5k making it. 99% of the studios who could afford it have an AE that can be in the room moving the mic for you when you are finding a tone.

Whats cheaper ......
7.5k on a unit that moves the mic autmatically for you
$15 on a BlueTooth headset for your intern / AE's cellphone and an AE or intern that's probably working for you for free

Big studios don't spend money on stuff like this, and its out of the reach of the guy that's working solo in his bedroom who would benefit from it the most.

This is funny, this weekend I was talking to a friend of mine that is an electronic expert, telling him that he should build something like this. I would want one and if it didn't end too expensive he could sell some.
Having the Amp inside the control room to tune it is a great way of getting the sound I'm looking for, but having to move the mic inside the Recording room until I find the right spot isn't very practical.
It would be way better to control the movement of the mic(s) (as shown on this video) inside the Control Room while listening to the recorded sound.

I'd have to disagree,

As cool as the idea is, I don't see it actually solving a real-world problem.
If every masterpiece album ever made so far in the history of recorded music wasn't hindered or damaged by the absence of this tool, then I'm certain that no-one is going to pay the (most likely) $1000+ retail price for this gizmo.

basically you pay him to see your reamp lol

No you wouldnt, cause of noise. The entire point of it is to be able to HEAR the changes as they take place. You cant do that when you are hearing a motor go ... BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
