Removing kick resonance head - does it kill the beater head quicker?

When you think about it, with the reso head on, the air inside bounces back and forth the skins, making the batter head react differently (and the rebound of the pedal). When the reso is off, the air escapes faster and with less rebound, depending on the batter head tuning. That's what I've thought, but I have yet to try it in practice.
