Hey amigos,

Anybody have any V30's going spare atm they fancy flogging? Need to x pattern my marshall you see...

Think the marshall cabs speakers are all 16ohms, seems 8's are more widely available tho :erk:

If you can't find any used ones, look at Thomann's 2x12" Harley Benton cab. They carry 2 V30 and are cheap (the cab is actually cheaper than buying just 2 speakers)

You fellas might be onto something here.

http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_g212_vintage.htm. £152.45. Its about £30 more expensive than two new V30's, but probably free shipping? Whereas two v30's + shipping = 2 * £65 ~ £130 + £10 shipping ~ £140. I reckon that could be a pretty killer cab for £10. lol

Do you guys know (or more specifically maybe @ Jonesy) if they are the correct ohmage for the Marshall 1960 cab?

Dude, the question you should be asking is not Benton vs. Marshall, but 2x12 vs. 4x12, and 4x12 wins by a landslide IME! Definitely do the Mark Jones trick IMO! (and Marshalls are loaded with 16 ohm speakers, as is the HB, so s'all good)

Cheers dude. Yeh the 4 x 12 should generally provide more beef all round- Would be interesting to do a 2 x12 vs 4 x 12 marshall face off actually whilst this is all going on. I Pm'd a mate of mine here in Bristol who has a mesa cab wondering if it was worth us actually swapping 2 of our speakers in aid of the x pattern options. I think it could be a viable option for both of us, ya reckon? I havent heard g12-75s in a Mesa though!

Wait, you're trying to get a guy to swap two Mesa V30s for two T75's? Good luck :lol: (and anyway, Mesas are loaded with 8 ohm speakers, so it wouldn't work)

Yeh it would be far from ideal to have two mesa v30's instead of two real celestion V30's in the Marshall ya know Marcus... :heh: :lol: Ta for the 8 ohm tip btw! ;)

Ed: It is funny though, I dont think i could be without the Marshall speakers entirely... never fancied uberkabing your beloved mesa dude?

In my research i stumbled upon a nice little comparison here (obviously this sort of thing has been done to death now but still):

"Finnish magazine Riffi tested these following cabs:

3. Bogner Uberschall | Celestion V30 | Used (Top Right Speaker)
4. Bogner Uberschall | Celestion G12T-75 | Used (Top Left Speaker)
5. Engl | Celestion V30 | New
6. Framus Dragon | Celestion V30 | New
7. Hughes&Kettner SC412 | Celestion Rockdriver | New
8. Hughes&Kettner CC412 | 25 Celestion Greenback | Used
9. Hiwatt | Fane | New
10. Krank Revolution | Eminence V12 Legend | New
11. Marshall 1960 | Celestion Greenback | New
12. Marshall 1960 Lead | Celestion G12T-75 | New
13. Marshall Handwired | Celestion Greenback | New
14. Marshall 1960 Alakaappi | Celestion V30
15. Mesaboogie Rectifier Standard | Celestion V30 | New
16. VHT | Eminence P50E | New

Download the samples:
http://www.riffi.com/riffi065/Riffi_kaappitesti.zip

Puhdas = Clean
Särö = Distortion
Alakaappi = Base Cabinet

The amp they used was a Peavey JSX. All samples were reamped using these microphones and a Millenia mic pre:

Shure SM57
Sennheiser e609
Shure SM81
DPA 4006 (one meter from the cab)"

Nah, T75's really don't appeal to me, though eventually I do wanna get a G12K100 to drop in the BL spot! (a Marshall MF400 cab with those speakers was used for "Ghost Reveries" and "The Great Cold Distance", which are tones that both have a cool and pretty unique character IMO)

Kev all 2002 (caus mines 02, so can be earlier models) are 16ohm rated speakers, and the Harley Benton has 2 16ohm rated speakers in it, thats why i went for it!! damn when i got my HB cab it was only £120!!!!!

i will say that the V30s in the HB have slightly different labelling to the V30 i purchased separately (maybe caus the HB ones could be the chineese version) however it makes no difference, and infact the ones i took fromt he HB to the 1960A are the ones i mic up anyway!!!
