Resident Evil 5

I was thinking about getting it, been in horror game withdrawl since finishing Dead Space. My gamertag is Delarin.

How is it?

Ah, well if you're looking specifically for a "horror" game such as Dead Space, this isn't really for you. The big reason a lot of diehard RE fans don't like this game is because it's too close to something like Gears of War. The only thing it's really lacking in that department is a more fully-developed cover system and being able to move while shooting/reloading/doing anything really. However it's a great action game with a very nice co-op system and has a fair amount of replay value what with all the playthroughs (weapons and money carry over between each playthrough so that you can eventually unlock and fully upgrade all the guns if you choose to) and mercenaries game - where you simply kill a bunch of enemies in a given level.

In short, it lacks the horrific feel that its predecessors (RE4 wasn't full of horror but it had more than RE5) accomplished, but makes up for it in pure intensity of its co-op gameplay. Especially fun if you can play through the game with a friend sitting right next to you :p

I'll add you to Friends, what games do you play online by the way?

:erk: i liked Resident Evil 4 but i really missed the old style (parasites wtf?). though i thought this new gameplay was interesting and a nice try to change the game a bit.
but all i heard about RE 5 were fans crying that it's a just bad version of RE 4.
Time for me to get another copy of RE 2, i think i lost it

Yeah, there's a lot of negative light being shed on the game at the moment. I personally don't see RE5 as simply a "bad version of RE4." It differs more from RE4 than the first three games differed from each other, so for people to now start complaining about it being too similar to RE4 is kind of redundant and ignorant.

And tbh part of the issue is this boo-hoo generation of gaming. People set their standards far too high for games (especially sequels), and no matter how good it is, there will always be people who stand together and bash the new installment of the series with an elitist attitude that they are zomgdiehard fans of the tr00 and 0r1g1n4L game and that you suck if you like the latest game more than the previous ones (hey that sounds familiar... Blooddrunk/AYDY). But anyway, just watch, many of the people bashing RE5 right now will start to bash RE6 whenever IT comes out and say how RE5 was so much better.

well you're right about the whining suckers who always complain about sequels BUT imo the 3 best parts of the Resident Evil series are 1.Resident Evil 2(which is also a sequel;), 2.Resident Evil 1 and 3.Resident Evil 4, because it was a new start and besides the fact that it's way less shocking and lacked the atmosphere I enjoyed it way more than.. Resident Evil 3 which wasn't as good as the first 2(or 3 ,counting code veronica) games with this survival horror style but maybe that's just because i played this gay version where the blood was replaced with steam :erk:
So you see, i'm not one of those whining *fans* who can't live without a Resident Evil game looking like the old ones but i definitely gonna miss this style.
And i see the point in not making the same game a 100 times but why the fuck did they replace the zombies with parasites (i liked the idea and the RE4 story wasnt bad) but i miss those slow creepy fuckers:lol: so all in all,it's all cool but I always saw Resident Evil more as survival games, not action shooters and now they started to turn them them into such games, come on understand the fans:D

I just finished RE4 on Wii a week ago, good fun. Nice shooting game, and I like it when you need to spare your ammo. Looking forward to the co-op on RE5, should be fun :)

I'm a Silent Hill fan tho, that kind of stuff is closer to my heart.

that's what i mean. shooting villagers heads off their fucking bodies is funny but after you see the tenth head exploding in front of you, you know that this ain't ol Resident Evil.

Yep, I also meant it as sarcasm. The new Silent Hill is made by some American team and I hear it's pretty close to Resident Evil, which is pissing me off. An ex military dude goes to this place and blasts monsters..??? You used to play as a person who knows nothing about violence, ends up on this mythical quest and experiences fear without necessarily seeing anything. (Akira Yamaoka is an excellent sound artist.) Horror is a psychological art, and none of it is displayed on this Hollywood crap where all the horror you get is when they scare people with these quick scenes. Horror is the feeling that generates within you when you're on a dark corridor thinking what could be behind the corner, it's created 90% by atmosphere and sounds. To me RE4 was just a fun zombie blasting game. In Silent Hill you rather avoid the monsters, of course, at the end the fighting/shooting/how the monsters themselves look is not important for a true psychological horror experience.

Bioshock scared the crap out of me at some moments. Have never played any RE game though.

American horror means make everything really quiet, build up suspence with the music, then have something pop out angrily. Some filmmakers have surpassed this by making everything really quiet, building up suspence with the music, then have something non-threatening pop out to relive stress before the angry thing pops out one second later.

And we wonder why the arts are dieing on this side of the globe.

The Max Payne bloodline level, with the crying baby! That was scary!
:p

nah that was just annoying :D these faking arms which grab through the windows of the police department(RE2)do shock me again and again because i always forget about them:lol:

Resident Evil 5? Co-op?

Looks cool.

Very well said, and I completely agree. That's why I really liked Dead Space, and the first two Silent Hill games, plus Bioshock and even the first Half-Life. In those games you weren't some badass soldier guy, but just someone who was basically a regular person put in hellish circumstances and had to do everything they could just to not die.

Action shooters are fun, but they just aren't the same as a good survival horror game to me. I like them both for different reasons, so it can get tricky when they start mixing.

I'll probably at least rent the new RE, though I usually play the Halo games, Gears of War, Dead Rising, Fable 2, and a few others. Been trying to practice guitar more than play videogames, though.

 Wtf? I've never heard of such a version! That sounds so retarded lol.

And i see the point in not making the same game a 100 times but why the fuck did they replace the zombies with parasites (i liked the idea and the RE4 story wasnt bad) but i miss those slow creepy fuckers:lol:

Rofl slow creepy fuckers. Yeah... it's funny how ONE zombie slowly slithering his way toward you was scarier than tens of parasitic mofos charging at you. I mean, the slow zombie thing was great for single player games, but in a co-op game I think it would be hard to keep the game exciting with that same idea.

so all in all,it's all cool but I always saw Resident Evil more as survival games, not action shooters and now they started to turn them them into such games, come on understand the fans:D

No you're totally right. I understand that, and I too enjoy the old horror survival feeling. The games are definitely different, and it will be interesting to see how RE6 plays out because Capcom has stated that they are "rebooting" the series... which I believe implies the storyline will be fresh with new characters and such, but it would be sweet if they also somehow combined the older RE games with the newer RE games. Like the scary camera angles and zombies of the old games with the action-packed co-op of the new games. No idea how that would work, but who knows maybe Capcom will deliver!

I just bought it a few days ago, I'm not a huge gamer so I've only spent a few hours playing it. I like it so far.

I've never played a Resident Evil game before....(dont kill me!)
