Followed the Reaper
American horror means make everything really quiet, build up suspence with the music, then have something pop out angrily. Some filmmakers have surpassed this by making everything really quiet, building up suspence with the music, then have something non-threatening pop out to relive stress before the angry thing pops out one second later.
And we wonder why the arts are dieing on this side of the globe.
I believe our own imagination can exceed deeper boundaries than what can be caught on film. I remember the first scene of the Japanese Ring movie, this girl went alone into the dark living room, suddenly you could sense something's going on, then she looks behind her back and sees something that makes her scream, I think it was amazing.
Being alone in a dark place, when you get this feeling you're not alone, that really gets your imagination going. Especially when you turn around and notice someone's looking at you.
I remember a couple of cool moments from M. Night Shyamalan's movies. One is from Signs, when Mel Gibson is saying good night to his son, then looks out the window and there's this alien creature staring at him from another rooftop. Another's from the Village, those two scenes with the red-cloaked monsters in the forest are just fucking epic. I recommend to check these out.
