Matheos' riffs are NASTY for this style of music, odd and awesome. Love "The Sorceress" and "Guardian", but you can't really go wrong here. Way ahead of its times.

For some reason I never got into "The Spectre Within" nearly as much, it's always seemed too dense and weird and impenetrable.

I want to put in some old Savatage next, maybe even "Sirens."

Anyway, yeah, post all the cool, old shit you're listening to.

*cue 9,000 replies saying IRON FUCKING MAIDEN*

I actually have that. It's pretty good, certainly more value to it than TMT.

But covering "Mexican Radio"? How were people NOT surprised with Cherry Orchards?

Awaken the Guardian is definitely one of those all time top albums I could never do without.. desert island disc and crap.

Do you have the remaster Surly Dick? FANTASTICCCCCC

Or rather, their anthology material, but I like this cover art.

That's an awesome cover, sort of similar to Roger Dean

One of the best power metal albums in existance. I had a huge talk about it with John Perez and Rob Lowe of Solitude Aeturnus when they were here, they used to cover "Valley Of The Dolls. It's amazing how much impact this album has to metal bands you could not imagine.
EDIT : FUck, it needs all the chorus lyrics

I will wish upooon a star, I belieeeeeve in youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
And if my will has strayed afar I remeeeeeeeeeeeembered you, will you remeeeeember me?
I the one you sentenced Pennance unabsolved

oh gosh just thinking about AtG gets me thinking about the GREATEST MOMENT OF AN ALBUM EVER

MORRIGANNNNNN

Morgan La Fay, raven on my sill of frost
Far away from the sea of the setting suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun
ISLE OF FIRE

You know what? Some crazy guys of Germany made petitions, gathered money, and basically made a whole "crusade" just to convince Fates Warning to give one show there with John Arch. I am so THERE if this will ever happen..

surely it is rodger dean?
I always thought it was, excellent album anyway, budgie should have been bigger

I used to have one of thier covers painted on a combat jacket
best off I think it was....a budgie in a flight suit....I must have looked bad -ass

retro album for me this week

probably Iron butterly: in-a-gidda-da-vidda

That Budgie cover is indeed Roger Dean's work. That crusade idea sounds cool, I've always contended that FW with Arch involved in some way would make the perfect Progpower headliner...although they apparently refused to consider an invitation.

I;m not big on progressive metal, but some albums are pure brillant..
Fates warning is awesome... Pleasent Shades Of Gray is
seriously brillaint.

That's a really good album and the best part is, if you fall a sleep, there's an alarm clock on the end.
