Reverbs on vocals

What are you guys using as a starting point for reverb on vocal, that is.... halls, rooms, plates? is it dependent on the singer or the song? or are you using the same setting throughout the who album? The reason why I ask, I'm about to record/ produce an album for a group but they have two different styles going on. Some songs are kinda southern metal and some are kinda sevendustish. I'm thinking the set it and forget it wont do it in this project.
 
It really depends on the genre and the singer of course.
Room and Halls are used very often,don't be afraid to try anything else,you never know
 
Plate in softer sections, short tail delay in heavy areas, automate up in long notes, down on fast passages, big rooms on very brutal guttural shit sounds cool but only in context. Million ways to go, really.
 
I'm a big fan of pushing vocals into delay then sending the delay into reverb (usually a chamber or plate), I find it softens the delay and makes it more floaty. Sometimes I run a nice room or plate direct from the vocal too just to give it depth alongside that. I also like ducking the vocal volume whilst pushing the delay/reverb feed on epic held notes (think I stole this idea from Ermin) so the vocal fades out into the delay.

Depends what you want to do though, I find too much reverb on the main vocal makes it sound too distant and there are a lot of instances, especially in modern production, where you don't really want that so I prefer just using the delay/reverb combo where I need it - I don't really like pushing reverb on its own because it the tail off really isn't as nice.
