INTENSE - SECOND SIGHT:
British power metal is certainly a rare commodity these days in terms of new and hungry bands from this once flourishing region. Sean Hetherington (vocals) and company apparently missed the memo about being a metal band in their homeland. Intense delivers metal in the vein of Iced Earth and early Savatage.

The first two full-length tracks "One Twenty" and and "The Winged" are heavy ended openers that have the classic metal sound not relying on the "happy melodies" so to speak. "War Of Angels" is reminiscent of the legendary Warlord crossed with Iced Earth. Throughout several of the tracks, hints of "Ride The Lightning" Metallica creep into the music making one long even more so for their long lost glory days. "Seeds Of Betrayal" fits this description rather nicely along with the Iron Maidenish gallop. Meanwhile "Skull Of Sidon" could very well be Intense's "Fade To Black" or "Angels Holocaust".

Another key ingredient that sticks out on "Second Sight" is the maturity of the compositions. There is a great deal of diversity to the songs as Intense avoid the trap of the same beat and speed track after track. Intense has for themselves upped the ante and may very well land up on a larger metal worldwide based on the quality of this disc. "Second Sight" is definitely one of the best releases I have heard in 2004.
