I'm surprised that nobody mentioned this around here. I guess it goes to show how little interest people had for the band....

"Due to my private problems, the lack of interest in REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE [Tolkki's post-STRATOVARIUS band] shows by the promoters, and the current situation in the music industry that affects to everything including the production budgets, it has become impossible to continue the band.

"We have tried to book shows in these last three years, but we haven't been able to do so.

"A rock band cannot exist without direct contact to its fans. Therefore I have no other choice but to make the decision to stop the band and its activities due to the above-mentioned reasons.

"The third and final album of the band will be released at the end of September.

"From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all the fans of my music throughout the years. It's been a great journey."

Interestingly enough, their third album will still be released.

Don't you need fans to make connections to them?????

Sorry dude, you are not Dave Mustaine.
You can't expect to use drama as a marketing tool to keep interest going in your new projects.

Strato's POLARIS was a FABULOUS album.
They are doing fine without you.

Didn't get the news. Wasn't on CNN. Did it even make it to Blabbermouth, or was that on some nebulous temporary social network page or something?

By who? When? Before the "comeback tour"?

He has no connection with his fans because even the most naive and blind followers eventually figure out when they're being used and mislead. You can't live a life of deceit, trickery and selfishness and expect to connect with anyone. Too bad people like that never figure out it's them, not the rest of the world that is the problem.

I heard about this the other day. This band's stuff was okay I thought. Nothing great though. His biggest problem was dragging his fans into the internal conflict. Sometimes we want to know, but he went well beyond to a point where fans just got sick of it and in turn, got sick of him. We also will never know who's at fault, but I'm thinking it was him. The guy should go through some massive therapy. He's a great guitar player and I hope he gets his mind set eventually.

Nobody wants to deal with an EDP like Tolkki. From saying he got his master robbed to calling Adolf Hitler a great man to trying to screw Strato, the man is six degrees of his axis. He needs serious psych help and should try to do session work to stay out of the limelight. Maybe it also did not help that he made the announcement on his OWN MySpace rather than the band's?

Yeah, Revolution Renaissance just wasn't going over well. The first album was cool, given the guest singers and the fact that it was the "lost" Stratovarius album. But the second was just bad.

Timo Tolkki is still capable of writing great power metal anthems and he should really just stick to what he knows. Stratovarius knew well enough to get the formula right and I'm sure Tolkki could do it too.

So is he still working on that Dreamspace project of his, which is supposed to be a throwback to older Strato?

From Napalm Records website:
Timo Tolkki of Stratovarius fame will release his third album with REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE on Napalm Records. "Trinity" will be available in late September to exhilarate melodic power metal fans everywhere. The album sees the band going back to Tolkki's roots and its title track, with a playing-time of over 10 minutes, proves that the mastermind is still full of pleasant surprises.

What a pity, Revolution Renaissance had much potential to become a success.

IMO, Tolkki is a great musician but he should not involve in the business side of his band(s).He has tried to do all business deals on his own which has caused the most problems concerning Strato and his other bands/projects in the last decade. Due his bipolar disorder the man seems to be very hard to keep in a leash by anyone when money is concerned. He had some too big visions like putting up an extremely expensive recording studio with Strato's advance payment money from Sanctuary Records without asking the band members opinion. With Strato's contract with Sanctuary Records there was also very bad luck, when only a couple of years after the band had signed a huge 4-CD deal and released, the label went bankrupt and due the legal process taking a long time they were tied to their contract with the fallen label which meant they couldn't release anything for several years. But that's history already.

Again IMO, what Tolkki needs is a tight professional management to take care of his business so he can concentrate on creating music. In that sector he is still better than most songwriters in power metal scene ever. Too bad he doesn't realize the fact that one man can't handle everything alone.

.

Tolkki is a fucking cuckoo. He doesn't realize that the reason why people didn't get interested on his new band is simple: 1) Very few people still respect the guy. 2) The music was pretty crappy.

I feel bad for the other musicians that were led to believe they had a future with RR. As for Tolkki, sure he has mental issues, but I think he dug his own hole.

Dude, like Timo or not, he was one of the founding fathers of the current prog/power metal scene with Strat's early T&T albums. At some point, you need to learn respect. Yes, Timo is kind of out there, but that doesn't make him a throw away. Musicians in general, do not necessarily fit the moniker of smiley happy people. They are like that for a reason. They are creative, and hopefully innovative. Learn that. K?

Again folks, yes Timo is a bit wacked, but I for one can't argue with his genius. Most of the Strat albums were great, innovative, genre defining, and most importantly... genre developing. I don't look at someone's low points as being the definition of their accomplishments. I try to look at their most innovative, creative, and highest points overall. I wish him success in the future. Not all bands work out. Hopefully he'll get some good management and be able to be a frontrunner yet again.

I agree with you. While I've been turned off by his comments, it honestly has no baring with me in terms of the music he puts out. I've never understood people actually that let the personal problem outweigh the art. As for this project, it just was something that sounded okay to me, nothing special.

I only have the first disc which sounded like Starto with Tobias and Kiske singing on it. Just didnt work for me. I have heard nothing but terrible things about the second one. I have lost all faith in him and his craziness. I think he is incappable of ever being taken serious again and I dount that he will ever find any serious musicans to work with him again.

You can be a shithead and still make great music. But the fact remains that you're still a shithead. I'm probably not going to like, or like less, someone's [product] who belittles my intelligence, slaps me, or anything of the sort.

I agree. This is why I dont really like meeting bands because if they turn out to be douche bags.....it kind ruins thier music for me. Has happened many times over the years.

yes happened to me two years ago with Helloween. Michael Weikath was a real pice of ....well....you know. Luckily everyone else was more than cool so it didn't ruin it for me. But I often wonder if he realizes that it really is the fans that are the ones that put you where you are. I have had bad days at work too but I don't take that out on others.

I learned something from Bruce Campbell the actor. From hearing him speak and reading his book, also Rob Zombie ( who I am not a fan of ). Fans are the people who pay your salary. They are the ones who will come out of the woodwork to see you. You make them mad or treat them bad.....you are done. There are actors / artist / musicians who I am not a fan of but now have great respect for because after meeting them they were really down to earth nice people. Actor / actress wise....Tia Carrere fro Waynes World is one. I would never search out any of her music or movies but I met her at a convention and my freind and I talked to her for a while and not just a quick hello. We were all joking around and having a blast. It left a great impression. Also Fred "The Hammer" Williamson. Same thing. He even saw us in the parking lot later in the day and stopped to thank us for stopping buy and stuff. Elliott Gould was another. Super nice down to earth. Not a huge fan but again...made a nice impression where I would support something of his that interested me now even more. Many bands have been great to meet over the years or just hearing stories from other fans. Once you are an ass...that stuff sticks. Sure people have off times or just dont want to be bothered. Too me...at a concert at a meet and greet...that is when you game face is on. After a band plays....no, dont bug them till they are done packing up and stuff. Lots of bands forget...one quick moment with a fan can make that person a fan for life.
