Ribbon mic on high gain guitar?

Now I gotta figure out which one to get. the m160 is too expensive for this project so I'll probably end up with a tbone or Nady.

if you need something cheap, i would definitely go with a fathead

Wow, yeah, I didn't realize the Fathead was available in the US (I guess I was confusing it with the T-bone), that's definitely the one I'd get as well!

with no transformer difference, sonically the Fathead and Fathead-II are the same.

I slightly prefer my Trion-7000 over the Fathead. My T7000 has an ever so slightly mellower mid range.

Hmm, anyone know the difference(s) between the Fathead and Fathead II?

according to cascade, the differences are cosmetic only

of course changes in the body of the mic can lead to small changes in the sound...but the ribbon, grill, and electronics are all supposed to be the same

But the Fathead II is pricier, and they're both still available... (rather than the Fathead II replacing the Fathead)

I would just like to mention that on the first link for the APEX 210 ribbon mic the price is $179US, meanwhile on the second link the same mic is $129US, both sites have free shipping on that particular mic. Both sites have different MSRP prices as well... very odd.

Anyway, looks like it is down to the FatHead/II and the Trion...possibly the APEX for the hell of it...I will have a ribbon mic by the end of the year!

Right, I see that. But what I was pointing out is:

BlueDogAudio.com
APEX 205 - Sale $139.00, MSRP $199.00
APEX 210 - Sale $174.00, MSRP $249.00

DagExpress.com
APEX 205 - Sale $119.00, MSRP $179.00
APEX 210 - Sale $129.98, MSRP $199.00

Same mics...totally different figures. I could understand the sale price being different, but the MSRP should be the same no matter what.
