No other singer ever reached me on such a personal, emotional level. Even though many of these songs were musically and lyrically Jerry's babies, Layne's audible fragility and blatant sincerity was a perfect match to Cantrell's songwriting genius. Layne's charismatically-tortured personality captivated people. A gifted artist, a unique soul.
