i agree with phloggy. The older albums are so damn screamy. The new clips remind me of them. They sound alright after a few listens, but could be better.

I like HS. It's not great, but it ain't shit!

Don't think much of BUrnt offerings, actually. Apart from Dantes and Burnt off, the other songs are pretty ordinary.

Dante's Inferno and Burnt Offerings are indeed the best though.

I personally don't think much of The Reckoning much at all. Sounds poohy. The chorus stinks. 100% stupid powermetal.

After listening quite a few times now this is what I think...

- Ripper sounds awesome
- The songs kinda suck

As usual the new singer will probably get blamed if people don't like the new stuff (Maiden, Priest, etc lol). But I think Ripper sounds awesome and his voice is what saves the songs, especially The Reckoning. That song is pretty bad actually, and the chorus is AWFUL. Although I don't think its power metally at all, sounds more like a crappy Horror Show chorus to me. The thing that makes that song okay is that Ripper sounds AWESOME in the verses!

So that's my verdict. Crap songs with good vocals. I didn't expect the new album to have good songs though. I think Jon's been losing his touch as a writer. Well to be honest I don't actually think he's much of a writer anyway. I think he's used up all the good ideas he had and lately everything just sounds rehashed, boring, and crap.

How is The Reckoning chorus power metally? I agree that it sucks balls but its not power metally. Power metal choruses are big and happy. That sounds like a Horror Show chorus. It's a big cheesy Carmina Barana (or whatever that song is called lol) "ooh ooh we're really scary and dark" chorus I reckon.

That song would sound alot better if it actually had a power metally chorus. I hated the vibe of Horror Show and thats exactly what this chorus has.

Good lord Troops, The Reckoning sounds like Rhapsody in the chorus, you need to stop listening to glam, its seeped into your brain and affected your judgement!

Y'see, this is what I'm talking about. I've listened to those songs like 5 times, and I have no idea what the chorus sounds like. Now I'm going to have to listen again.

I don't have this problem with Wildest Dreams though.

The chorus of the reckoning has the same sort of multi layer vocal effects rhapsody but thats about it. It sounds more horror showish than power metallish.

Burnt Offerings and Stormrider will always be their best work

The chorus of The Reckoning reminds me of Damien, and i'm not seeing the power metal-ness that seems to the common theme here.
