Ripper Owens joins Iced Earth

I rather like the new tunes! Took me a couple listens, but i now am looking forward to this album more than ever. Ripper really fits well with the music, and he does an amazing job. As for past IE releases, my favorite is, was and always will be Night Of The Stormrider. it's the perfect blend of progressive, power and thrash metal, and it just rules! As for Horror Show, when i first got it, i was blown away, i couldn't believe what i heard, it was awesome. But as time went on, that starting wearing off, and now, i see it as a good album, with a few filler songs that could've been better with a bit more development, but what's good there is great! Phantom Opera Ghost = ! Good album, but not really as mind blowing as i first thought it was, nor is it at all bad. And did i mention the new songs are really good? :)

Ripper doesnt sound anywhere near as menacing as Matt though, thats the only problem I have with him :) Still, probably the best replacement out there for Matt all things considered, but this new album doesnt sound like it will be anywhere near as heavy as Horror Show

Lair!

It will be better than Horror Show - of that I have little doubt.I'd be extremely surprised if it comes close to matching Something Wicked though, taht album is something special. !

I'm probably one of the few people who won’t miss Barlow terribly much. The vocals to Wolf are really weak. It would be great to hear that sang properly.

How much better do the drums sound compared to Horror Show! !

Leave my lair out of this!

Horror Show is better than Something Wicked, but the new one does sound a lot closer to SW than HS.

Dont you ever speak about Matt that way again Sydo

No way is Horror Show better than Something Wicked. That's just crazy talk. You're crazy dude.

I'll straighten this out....

Horror Show is mediocre.
Something Wicked is alot better.
Ripper sounds better than Matt.
The Reckoning chorus sounds alot more Horror Showish/intro of Damienish than it does power metal.

Oh and just because it has Rhapsody elements doesn't mean it sounds power metally because Rhapsody aren't exactly a typical power metal band, and its those weird sounding medieval choruses and stuff that make them different (and crapper, coz I hate that stuff) to other power metal bands.

Most power metal is nowhere near as dark, epic and over the top fantasy sounding as that. Most of it is a straight ahead generic rehash of '80s heavy metal with cleaner production/vocals, too much double kick and choruses with a big happy positive vibe.

Dude, I've been listening to Horror Show for the past 20minutes. Matt sounds silly when he hits trys to hit high notes.

Damien, Jack, Jeckyl & Hyde are still great tracks though!

 You are the only person I have ever heard describe Rhapsody as dark :)
