ripper owens

I never really got into priest so i can't say much about him filling halfords shoes. But I am a big iced earth fan, and i'll say that when i heard him on their latest album i nearly puked in my hypothetical soup. It just sounded SO bad. He lacks both feeling and balls that iced earth need in their vocals.

It seems his claim to fame is doing a mediocre job of filling in for amazing vocalists.

Barlow wasn't a very good vocalist, and there was nothing mediocre about Owens's filling it for either Barlow or Halford. He did just as good as anyone could given his situation. How many people even gave him a fucking chance? Not many. I don't understand how you people were even able to work up a tolerance for Barlow's mid-range...

This I don't understand... though Ripper probably has near an octave on Barlow, I can also think of at least 87 other guys that sound exactly like him, whereas Barlow has, and I don't think anybody can argue with this, one of the most unique voices in the history of Metal. He definately deserves credit for being one of the few baritone lead vocalists in power metal pretty much ever, and his voice is more emotive than Owens' by a mile. Yeah, so Tim can hurt the inside of your head with his schreeching noises, does that truly make him better?

I gave the last Iced Earth a chance. I listened to the whole thing exactly once from beginning to end. It licked panda taint, and it was definately the most mediocre thing Ripper has ever done, although the only non-mediocre thing he's really ever done was that live Priest album.

The point is that Ripper had absolutely no input in either band aside from HELPING with the LYRICS to the song "Red Baron, Blue Max" on Th Glorious Burden," so he's no kiss of death. I would think the previous singer leaving would have a greater negative effect on the future material than a stellar new singer stepping in. Like others have said, Owens was without a doubt the highlight of the latest Iced Earth album. Also, it's odd how you disagree with everyone else when they say that The Glorious Burden sounds like it was written for Owens in mind, as if Schaffer wrote it thinking he would sing. Which wouldn't be unlikely.

contradict much?

because he was changing their style for the new singer. while owens didnt write the music, he was the cause for the change

*shakes head* dumbass

Barlow IS a very good vocalist in my opinion. Not only can he sing very well, but his voice is very much worth listening to. He fit in iced earth perfectly, as he added a lot of passion to the music. Can you honestly say that the new album(or even just his vocals) hold a candle to Something Wicked, Burnt Offerings, horror show, etc?

Essentialy, it just doesn't sound NEARLY as good.

I gave owen a chance, because i like iced earth. when i heard that he brought absolutely nothing interesting to iced earth, i gave up.

GR, input is not the same thing as influence, I hope you realize that. And Grimace, stop being a faggot, I read your first post and was about to give you your due for sounding intelligent and having a coherant argument, but then you had to being a retard. Arrakis, Glorious Burden sucks because of Schaffer, not Owens. If Barlow sang on it it still would have sucked, and when Barlow tries to sound sorrowful or passionate he sounds like he has something caught in his throat. It's just extremely awkward. Other than that he's a quality singer, no doubt. But hands down, Ripper is of a higher calibre on every technical level. Granted, he's nothing close to a breath of fresh air in terms of originality. Barking Pumpkin, I think I addressed you as well. I hope I've covered all bases, I'm too lazy to check. Oh and I don't really care either.

People forget, besides Phantom Of The Opera, Horror Show sucked huge, and not because of Barlow.

Mhmm. Except that sucked too. As did SWTWC. And The Dark Saga.

I enjoyed a lot of songs on Horror show... but besides that album... I didn't really like what they did after Burnt Offering... but even that album had some songs that annoyed me.

When put in the context of a certain future or current band member being the reason for a band's sucking, they really are. It wasn't a question of Ripper sucking, just that Iced Earth did start producing crap once he was in the picture.

Cop-out. Dodens iz teh DUMBO. :tickled:

Again, due to the songwriting. Barlow fucked up those albums pretty badly on his own, but the riffs were fresh enough and the arrangements and leads diverse and interesting...to a degree.

If John Greely weren't simultaneously such a greedy Jew and a bloody anti-Semite, Burnt Offerings would have owned on all levels. Instead, we're left with Barlow's off-key troll bellowing. Ripper would definitely have made that album a classic as well.

Yeah, yeah. Post those clips of you doing 'Adult Themes For Voice' before you insult any more vocalists. I don't see what you think is wrong with Barlow anyway.
