RNC on Bass Guitar?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here has tried using the RNC-1773 Really Nice Compressor on bass guitar before or on drums? I've heard that it works great on vocals and some applications, but I've seen nothing but complaints from guys trying to use it on bass before. Any insight is appreciated!

You have to watch the "Release Time". (it's a very fast compressor)
So increase the release time if you are hearing LF distortion.
It's not my first choice (out of what I own... which ain't much) but I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
As far as my experience on Drums, great on OH's and Snare. (never tried them on toms) didn't like it much on Kick.

Thanks for the input...I have a buddy who also has a TC Electronics G-Major which has a compressor in it. How well do you guys think something like that would work in the chain or as an insert into the recording channel to use it's compressor while tracking?

I love the RNC, but am not a big fan of it on bass. It always sounds a little thin for me, often "clanky" no matter the settings.
