rock mix.. need more guitar cut how to do it?

Hi all...

In all these metal mixes I hear, the guitars cut really well.. I feel like it has something to do with the hats and cymbals being lower in the mix and having less "air" in the drums.

I need a big sound for a rock mix, but the guitars are tracked completely differently, so I am looking for figure out how to get the guitars to pop/cut thru the mix better without sacrificing a big ambient drum sound.. ideas?

Do you mean the guitars in general, or a specific section?

Im talking about the guitars in general.. but the chorus and bridge specifically stand out.

There is a lead running in the background during the chorus that doesnt cut thru as much as it should, and i dont think its a volume issue... i dont want to change the wide panning since the balance would be thrown off..
