Seriously, is there anything interesting in the mainstream anymore? The only popular bands worth paying attention to have been around for some years now like Radiohead, Tool, APC, and... uh... that's about it. The underground is thriving, and the mainstream is stagnant. Even in the late 90s there were still a handful of interesting bands popping up on major labels, but what gives for the 00s?

Actually, all kidding aside, the most innovated music coming out of the mainstream continues to be in the realm of hip hop and the mixed urban genres. Bands like The Black-Eyed Peas and Basement Jaxx are bringing it. But as for rock n' roll (not complete threadjack, see?)...it's bleak.

I knew the Darkness would come up in this thread, but I didn't expect it in the first post! :)

I listened to that song a few times yesterday, it's okay. Nothing to get too excited over for me. The lazer beam guitars were fookin' funny though!

nothing in the mainstream rock area interests me. Tool's Aenima will always be good, but other than that one, the band doesn't interest me. Radiohead and APC dont interest me at all.

I don't listen to the radio too often, so I really don't know what's new.

Yeah, apart from The Darkness, I can't think of anything mainstream worth a toss. Serves all you fuckers right for swapping your spandex for baggy shorts *points to the world* - WANKERS!!!! Say what you like about them but I think a singer of their calibre is worth worshipping by itself, followed by the fact that bringing credible rock music back to the masses is a surprise (as opposed to doing something original).

Christ, times like these people should be grateful that Cunt Cobain shot himself in the face, cos I would have happily stabbed his kneecaps out, shot him in the stomach, skinned random parts of him and them clubbed him with a baseball bat before shooting him with a big gun until I got bored...that fucker has a lot to answer for. Wanker. So glad he's dead. Wish all the stupid untalented trend-whoring wankers who try desperately to pass themselves off as rockers despite the fact they've never listened to a credible rock band in their lives would shoot themselves in the face too. Death To False Metal ought to be replaced with Smash Their Gravestones, Dig Up Their Corpses, Shit In The Eye Sockets And Then Dismember The Corpses Limb By Limb Before Throwing Them Into Pigshit, the amount these fuckers disgust me.

Disclaimer: I've had a few pints :) I will happily repeat this rant any other day of the week.

What about all the fallout from the Oasis and Blur brit-pop explosion in the early 90's (following on from the Happy Mondays, The Smiths, etc)? Although Radiohead and Bush were the only artists to make it big in the US, there are plenty of others still performing with their integrity intact: Starsailor, Elbow, Travis, Coldplay, etc. I'm not sure what happened to Pulp, The Verve, The La's, or Suede but they all had some fine moments.

Oh, and I thought U2's last album was pretty cool.
