Anyone here own one, or have any experience with one (live or recording) ? The guitarist in my band is looking to add a dedicated clean amplifier to A/B with his Dual Rectifier and this seems decent but the good reviews, not to mention being in Hetfield's rig for a long time. So any thoughts?

I'm hardly a clean tone connoisseur (had to use spell check for that one), but I thought it sounded incredibly lush when I played through one extensively at school. The Rectifiers have pretty nice clean channels though, so another amp seems a bit unnecessary, but if he's sold on it, I'd think it'd be easier to get another head rather than a combo and connect it to the same cab, switching between 'em with this (or the VT if he gets a tube amp for his cleans, but that doesn't seem worth it).

Well, it seems like we haven't been able to get a really nice clean out of the 2-ch dual rectifier he's got. Never really sparkly enough. Maybe we should look at changing the preamp tubes to get the rectifier clean improved. I do know he wanted to do another amp so he can run a different FX loop for each sound (he uses some fx only on clean or dirty), and I think he liked the idea of a good combo. But thanks for the info

That Tonebone gizmo looks pretty cool, but it seems like it'd be cheaper to just get the JC120 instead of picking up a second head + $350 for the switch. Or maybe one of the smaller Roland amps, which might not even be that much bulkier than a second head?

IMHO, the JC-120 is one of the greatest clean amps ever made. Put it up against a fender bassman and you've got a real battle on your hands... Roland nailed it with this amp, it really takes advantage of the pluses of solid-state

Yeah, when I recommended the second head and switch it was for the sake of convenience (hauling a head vs. a whole combo) rather than cost effectiveness. Don't know of any smaller Roland amps that are as highly regarded as the JC120 (in fact, don't know of any smaller Roland amps besides the Cube series, which are good practice amps but not quite on the level of their big brother...)

Roland makes 2x10 and/or 1x12 Jazz Chorus amps as well, based on the same design as the JC120 - I know I've seen the same amp in something smaller than a 2x12.
