Room mic suggestions

to me, the mic on the room doesn't matter near as much as the close mics

call me crazy, but i think you can make anything work for the room...

sm7 for mono - sounds amazing. Try it if you have one. You'll have to really fork out a lot of cash for some decent ribbon mics even though most room mics just get raped by a compressor anyway.

Depends on the budget mate. Royers are nice, but the cheap thomann/ nady ribbons ain't bad either!

this.

I'm often using a Behringer ecm8000 (actually really liking it for rooms).

sometimes I'll se an e906, works great, too...it really doesn't matter all that much, it'll be compressed and EQ'd to hell and back later anyway

Yeah to be honest, room mics are towards the end of my long shopping list, haha. I just wanted to see what people think about it.

I figure if you're going to buy a room (or a set of em) get something useful, you know? As I said before, I have a pair of Cascade Fathead II Ribbon Mics with Lundhal transformers and I can set them up in stereo or in a Blumlein pair. They're great on drum overheads, rooms, acoustic, guitar cabs, everything.

word, i'll check those out man, thanks.

nope. Ribbons are dynamics, and people love them as room mics. Toss up some 57's and see how they sound, I personally like it more than most condesers; all they do is increase the amount of cymbals in my recordings i have to try and attenuate.
