is it safe to do?

there is now preamp in to allow me to only use my power-amp. so i've done it a few times but im not sure if im damaging my amp and i done it at low volumes.

is it safe because if i use the return of the fx send im not really giving anywhere for the power / audio / whatever that was created in the peavey's preamp to unload anywhere. its just building up. or is it? i dont know!

for god sake fill me in someone!

It's ok to do, just be sure that you don't have any bad connections or shorted cables, because they will get their crackling pumped through the amp at FULL volume. Start your preamp with its master volume at zero, and only turn up as much as you need.

The 6505+ does NOT have a power amp master volume, so anything going into the FX return has the ability to push the amp at FULL volume, possibly killing your speakers and your ears in the process.

I love these amps but hate the FX loop because of this issue.

yea i've noticed that before, i ran my macbook through my peavey head into my marshall cab and when i clicked the macs volume button the little noise it makes almost took my fucking head off.

thanks for the replies though - good to know i was not damaging the amp - cheers

A few weeks ago I tried running a line 6 POD 2 through the fx so I was using just the power amp of my 6505+. I didn't get any sound... my amp is working fine, maybe I didn't connect it up right.
