My issue with live CDs over the past 10 years is that the bands try to hew too closely to the studio versions rather than making something new. In the 80s and early 90s, the material from the most recent album would be pretty close, but all of the older stuff would have evolved from being played hundreds of times live and you could hear little changes. Those little changes screamed out "LIVE!" whereas modern live albums are just inferior studio versions most of the time with an audience.
