Here's a 2 Song demo from Sacriphyx. The sound quality is not the best but the music itself is pretty damn good. A nice mix of black/death/thrash. Includes members once involved with Stargazer & Misery's Omen. They'll actually be on a soon to be released split album with the aforementioned Stargazer. Check it!

I'm waiting for the $5 7" version because I don't want to pay an extra $10 for the format when 7" is perfectly suitable for these two songs.

you're paying for something that doesn't sound like shit

a 33 rpm 7" is in no way comparable in fidelity to a 45 rpm 12"

I'm willing to wager that it sounds just fucking fine and is not worth an extra $10 for merely two songs, especially coming from a label as allegedly anal about sound quality as NWN.

well that's a wager i won't have an issue with you making but "fine" is a subjective measure and i just wanted to say you would in fact be paying for sound quality and not for a bigger record or whatever

releasing things on both 7" and 12" used to be common practice back when vinyl records were the norm, you would get crappy 7" singles for home users who didn't give a shit and 12" versions for collectors and for radio/DJ's/audiophiles who cared about sound quality

Perhaps you shouldn't have had your band's EP released on a 33 rpm 7" if the format sounded like shit.

i'm not saying 7" vinyl is worthless or doesn't have a place, because it does. its sole reason for existing is it is (read: used to be) pretty cheap to produce. i like 7" vinyl the way i like tapes: i acknowledge that both often sound like ass but they have a nice "feel" to them and if you're looking to do a good audio-visual presentation of 2 short songs, 7" is it.

7" vinyl was conceived for cutting 3 minute singles at 45 rpm and it sounds fine for that, especially when it's on a little thicker vinyl than is common for old, cheap singles. it does not sound fine for modern metal bands that do not understand the limitations of the medium and insist on cutting 7 minutes of poorly mastered bass-heavy music at 33 rpm onto flimsy 7" discs. every time someone says "vinyl sucks" it invariably stems from listening to records like this.

whether or not lethal is guilty of this is irrelevant, and also you might be surprised to know i was not the SUPREME DICTATOR of lethal who decided how to release everything, even though the 7" is cool and all.

but never mind all that, are you seriously arguing that 7" vinyl at 33 rpm does NOT have SIGNIFICANTLY worse quality than 12" vinyl at 45 rpm because if that's what you're going to say you're going to be lying in a quite ridiculous manner. just a heads up.

Based on what I'd actually said, it seems like I was arguing that 7" vinyl at 33 rpm sounds fine to me. I've never had the same song on a 7" vinyl at 33 rpm in addition to a 12" at 45 rpm to actually do a sound comparison (though if you really want me to hear the difference, feel free to purchase a copy of this 12" split for me and send it my way and I'll let you know what I think once the 7" version is also released), but I'm not very attuned to audio fidelity issues in general, at least in terms of vinyl format and rpm. Obviously vinyl sounds different than tapes, which sound different than CDs. But overall it's not something that's important to me. I don't have super high fi equipment, nor do I have a fetish for things like this, so when I can buy the same two songs either on 7" for $5 or on 12" for $15, I'm going to go with the former and save $10. I'm not arguing against the idea that 12" sounds better than 7" or that 45 is better than 33. I'm just saying that it's not significant enough for me to care all that much, especially when caring would cost me three times as much money.

okay good, as i said i don't care what you do with your money i just wanted to make sure (because i'm such a nice guy) you understood the 12" release is not purely a vanity thing (surprisingly enough, after all this is NWN!)

i don't even know how long these songs are because i found no real information on the split anywhere, but if it's over 5 minutes per side you're going to probably have an appreciable and real difference in sound quality that you don't need anywhere close to a "fetish" or "super hi fi" equipment to notice, you're going to hear a flattening, buzzing and lack of bass on any system. but if that's fine with you, then that's fine with you
