A Canoga Park man was arrested Tuesday for having molested a child over a period of several years, announced J. Stephen Tidwell, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles. Thomas Edward Jukes, 32, was taken into custody by members of the FBI’s S.A.F.E. Team (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement). Jukes posted $100,000 bail and will be arraigned May 16th in Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to an affidavit filed in support of a warrant to search Jukes’ Canoga Park residence, Jukes is alleged to have molested a boy from the time he was five years old, for a period of approximately seven years. In addition, Jukes is suspected of attempting to engage children in sexual interaction and/or online chat. The investigation into Jukes’ criminal activity began when a parent complained of an e-mail sent to her child, whose e-mails she was monitoring through software installed for the purpose of Internet safety. Prior to being relieved from employment, Jukes was a computer teacher at Sierra Canyon School, located in Chatsworth, California, and a coach in the Valley Christian Athletic Association.
Investigators with the S.A.F.E. Team are concerned Jukes may have been engaged in similar activity for many years and may have corresponded with and/or molested additional children. A photograph of Jukes is being released. Anyone with information about children that may have been sexually exploited by Jukes should contact the FBI immediately. In Los Angeles, the FBI may be reached 24 hours a day at 310 477-6565. Anonymity and confidentiality are guaranteed.
