Well, since I only live a couple miles away from the venue, I guess it makes sense that I post first, LOL!

I was really worried before this show, cause Santee is a sleepy little part of San Diego....and the bar isn't that big. Holy crap was I ever wrong to worry! Fans of the mighty Maidens came out in force, and packed the joint pretty damn full...especially for a Thursday!

I think the ladies decided to stick with a "classics" lineup tonight, so the new fans could get used to them...and then they can bring out the rarer songs after they establish more fans in this area of San Diego. I think it was a good decision, and the selist was fantastic! I like any set with Maiden songs, especially new ones...but the mix of songs they played tonight was just electric, and clicked extremely well! I'm terrible with setlists, but they played these songs...

Aces High
Die With Your Boots On
Caught Somewhere In Time
Wasted Years
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner! (I'm going to go ahead and believe that this was played for me because I requested it for my pre-pre-birthday show. I don't care what you say....LOL!)
The Phantom Of The Opera
The Trooper
Infinite Dreams!
Fear Of The Dark
Genghis Khan! (Again...played for me and me alone....don't argue with me! ;) )
22 Acacia Avenue
The Number Of The Beast
Run To The Hills

Edited: Oh yeah....and Killers! How could I have left that out....that was freakin incredible! I almost lost my voice on this song alone!

It's all a blur, so I'm sure I left some amazing performance out of that list!

Anyway...it was just an electric night...and the sound was VERY good...much better than it was at Canes, when they played last. Even Aja mentioned that, when talking with her after the show. I'm just not really sure what else to say at this point. You've seen these wonderful muscians, and you know how they bring the house down....and boy did they ever!

Ladies...I believe this is what you would call a "you tube" night!

Anyway....I think I got everything I could have wanted from the ladies, aside from a marriage proposal from Wanda...LOL! Seriously...before the show, I bought the autographed drum head with the Eddie painted on it....after the show I met with each of the ladies, just to tell them how great it was, and to thank them. I missed thanking Liz, cause some guy had her monopolized for a very long time. I'll thank her here now....Thank you so much, Liz! I can never take my eyes off you when you're playing Adrian's solos...friggin amazing!

Wanda was very nice, and I just briefly thanked her and mentioned that it was a great show, before I moved on, as the line was backing up.

Aja was very nice to talk with, and she wished me a Happy Birthday. I just love her smile, and it never ceases to amaze me, the voice that comes out of that petite frame of hers.

Linda was so gracious and gave me an autographed drumstick for my birthday...and just how I like them...beaten all to hell, and cracked like a mother! It's awesome...thank you Linda! Oh...and it still astounds me how she drums so well, and frickin' sings backing vocals, too.

Last, I got to thank Sarah, and it really meant a lot to me because, she's become my favorite of the ladies. It's not easy to say that, because they're all outstanding...and I truly TRULY mean that. I think you just end up clicking with one member or another, depending on who you are. Well....Sarah...as I said to you after the show...you...are...AMAZING! Not only do you play that guitar like it's a part of you, but your stage presence and energy are simply fantastic! It doesn't take a genius to see that you enjoy this probably more than most things in this world. I think I can identify, cause I'm as passionate about my artwork....so I know what it means to you....we can see it...clear as day! Thanks for the hug, and I will keep you up to date on my Iron Maiden concerts I'm going to on the east coast, as promised. I'm calling it "Khanfest 2006". Then I'll see you in the PIT in Irvine!

Lastly....again...thank you ladies....for a terrific show, and the best start to a birthday weekend I could have possibly asked for. I'll go to a ton of shows of yours in the future, but this one will ALWAYS stand out in my memory!

Also...thank you to Santee and San Diego, for showing up in such great numbers on, as Aja put it, a school night! If the venue does not ask the ladies back, then they're idiots!

Have a safe drive home, ladies....secure in the knowledge that you absolutely kick-ass.

ARRRGGH I had written a long review and because of login problems
it got lost. I'll keep it shorter now.

It was a great night. Ir was very differenet experience than Canes shows.
The stage was so low so I felt like being on stage. I was trying to make
space for Aja.

The show really started after 9 PM. Doctor doctor pr intro was
so exciting. It's the first time I'm hearing Maidens doing it. It adds
so much emotion to the beginning.

The set was so much different than the last ones. There were so many
songs retunring from hiatus and makings us happy and 2 songs that
I never got to hear before : Ghengis Khan (for Khan I guess :)) and
Infinite Dreams. ID is one of my most faves songs and I've always
dremat it hearing live from Maiden and it's the closes it gets. Thanks
a lot. Phantom being stapled on the set for a while makes me so happy.
If you have to pick one song that works BEST live it got to be
Phantom. I totally went crazy especillay during intrumental sections
as usual. Too bad that less people do the usual jumping and singing
along with it. Somewhere in Time being played after a looong time
was the highlight of the show for me. Such a beatiful song with
such a beautiful rendetion. Being the flag holder was so cool,
I would never imagine I'd hold the flag a la Bruce during Trooper.
The stage was that small :) Thanks Aja.

The place was packed on a thruday night which was great. I hope
this will result Maidens doubling San Diego shows frequency :) But
to be honest we are spoiled. We have another date in november already.
Thanks for that one too.

After the show I wanted to say hi but there were many people.
I had interactions when thet were on stage and those are priceless
enjoying the show together. I got to see good friends like Khan
and Nicko. I also met Mike.

I can't wait for the next show. Until then ...... Thanks a lot!

As always the ladies deliver in spades on the performance. :headbang: :kickass:

Very good turnout as was said. I was right up against the stage and when Liz windmilled I would get whacked by her hair.

Will download pics tonight.

The big highlight was after getting home from work, running a couple of errands on the way out there I needed to eat dinner. So I get to the strip mall and go into a little pizza/subs place and the whole crew was in there themselves.
So it was fun to shoot the breeze with everybody beforehand.

From what I heard the venue was real happy with the show. Much better sound than Canes has IMHO.

Hopefully they will book the Maidens again soon. Yeah. Yeah. We're spoiled. :loco: :loco:

Talked to a few skeptics before who were converts after. Told you so.

Now fess up, who was chucking dollar bills at Sara and Aja but left out Wanda, Liz, and Linda? Playing favorites????

I got a couple of pics of the bills on the stage.

Jim, you must have been right in front of me. Hope I didn't hurt your ears, singing at the top of my lungs...LOL! Looking forward to the pics!

Asterothe....it was good to see you too, buddy...as well as Nicko and bikeflys from the Maiden forum, too. I've seen Maiden play Infinite Dreams live before, but not for almost 20 years now, and it's one of my favorite Maiden songs...so that was fantastic to hear as well!

Oh....and I grew up in Santee, and still live here. Never in my life, did I think I'd heard the phrase "Scream for me Santee!!!!"....LOL! That was frickin'....weird...and great...LOL!

Probably, I'm always easy to find. Look for the dorky looking guy with a camera in front of Wanda's amp.
As a bass geek that is where I always park myself to get the full effect. :)

I did get on Sara's side at Canes and there wasn't enough low end over there.

Jim

BTW Linda, was that the highest "birdseye" view you ever had? :loco:

Y'all will see the pics later but if Linda stood her head would nearly touch the ceiling. Highest I have ever seen her placed.

TO: All Maidens fans who showed up to the Santee gig!

Thanks a million for your support, LOUD cheering and demands for more songs last night. :headbang: :kickass: Thats what we play for, that response from the crowd when you give them (you) a great show and a great time. My only wish was that we had our promo materials ready, but on such short notice, we just couldn't get it in gear.:erk: Other than that, we had a fantastic friggin' time. :kickass: Having so many people digging on us makes it all worth it! I already wrote the gals a thank you note, but let me repeat, thanks again for letting us open for ya, and we hope to do so again in the future, anytime & (almost) anywhere!:heh:

We'll have pictures and video clips of the show on our main site www.metalbrigadeonline.com in the coming days. Be sure to stop by, check em' out and sign the guest book.

Getting up at 5:30 to go to work today was an adventure. :zombie:

Get up, run water in the sink, apply shaving cream, take shower, wake up a bit more, get out, repeat but actually shave this time. :zombie: o_O

What night! The sound was really great and Eric and Paul, the sound guys, were a pleasure to work with. It was a good sounding room, too.

Pretty wild crowd for a "school" night! It was really great seeing all you guys again, too.

Glad we got your birthday off to a good start, Khan! :p You don't have to do much arm twisting for us to play Rime! I just love singing that song. Thanks for requesting it!

Thanks to the Maidens for an outstanding show. You guys sounded great! It was so cool to see a show like that in East County. It was a first for sure. Given the location and week night, seemed like a good crowd. Steve (SW owner) seemed really happy with the turnout as well, so I hope you guys will come back! Please, pretty please! Doesn't matter. We'll follow you wherever. Good luck on the road.
