Well, since I only live a couple miles away from the venue, I guess it makes sense that I post first, LOL!
I was really worried before this show, cause Santee is a sleepy little part of San Diego....and the bar isn't that big. Holy crap was I ever wrong to worry! Fans of the mighty Maidens came out in force, and packed the joint pretty damn full...especially for a Thursday!
I think the ladies decided to stick with a "classics" lineup tonight, so the new fans could get used to them...and then they can bring out the rarer songs after they establish more fans in this area of San Diego. I think it was a good decision, and the selist was fantastic! I like any set with Maiden songs, especially new ones...but the mix of songs they played tonight was just electric, and clicked extremely well! I'm terrible with setlists, but they played these songs...
Aces High
Die With Your Boots On
Caught Somewhere In Time
Wasted Years
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner! (I'm going to go ahead and believe that this was played for me because I requested it for my pre-pre-birthday show. I don't care what you say....LOL!)
The Phantom Of The Opera
The Trooper
Infinite Dreams!
Fear Of The Dark
Genghis Khan! (Again...played for me and me alone....don't argue with me! )
22 Acacia Avenue
The Number Of The Beast
Run To The Hills
Edited: Oh yeah....and Killers! How could I have left that out....that was freakin incredible! I almost lost my voice on this song alone!
It's all a blur, so I'm sure I left some amazing performance out of that list!
Anyway...it was just an electric night...and the sound was VERY good...much better than it was at Canes, when they played last. Even Aja mentioned that, when talking with her after the show. I'm just not really sure what else to say at this point. You've seen these wonderful muscians, and you know how they bring the house down....and boy did they ever!
Ladies...I believe this is what you would call a "you tube" night!
Anyway....I think I got everything I could have wanted from the ladies, aside from a marriage proposal from Wanda...LOL! Seriously...before the show, I bought the autographed drum head with the Eddie painted on it....after the show I met with each of the ladies, just to tell them how great it was, and to thank them. I missed thanking Liz, cause some guy had her monopolized for a very long time. I'll thank her here now....Thank you so much, Liz! I can never take my eyes off you when you're playing Adrian's solos...friggin amazing!
Wanda was very nice, and I just briefly thanked her and mentioned that it was a great show, before I moved on, as the line was backing up.
Aja was very nice to talk with, and she wished me a Happy Birthday. I just love her smile, and it never ceases to amaze me, the voice that comes out of that petite frame of hers.
Linda was so gracious and gave me an autographed drumstick for my birthday...and just how I like them...beaten all to hell, and cracked like a mother! It's awesome...thank you Linda! Oh...and it still astounds me how she drums so well, and frickin' sings backing vocals, too.
Last, I got to thank Sarah, and it really meant a lot to me because, she's become my favorite of the ladies. It's not easy to say that, because they're all outstanding...and I truly TRULY mean that. I think you just end up clicking with one member or another, depending on who you are. Well....Sarah...as I said to you after the show...you...are...AMAZING! Not only do you play that guitar like it's a part of you, but your stage presence and energy are simply fantastic! It doesn't take a genius to see that you enjoy this probably more than most things in this world. I think I can identify, cause I'm as passionate about my artwork....so I know what it means to you....we can see it...clear as day! Thanks for the hug, and I will keep you up to date on my Iron Maiden concerts I'm going to on the east coast, as promised. I'm calling it "Khanfest 2006". Then I'll see you in the PIT in Irvine!
Lastly....again...thank you ladies....for a terrific show, and the best start to a birthday weekend I could have possibly asked for. I'll go to a ton of shows of yours in the future, but this one will ALWAYS stand out in my memory!
Also...thank you to Santee and San Diego, for showing up in such great numbers on, as Aja put it, a school night! If the venue does not ask the ladies back, then they're idiots!
Have a safe drive home, ladies....secure in the knowledge that you absolutely kick-ass.
