City beneath the surface
I've been a fan of this band for a fairly decent amount of time now, so I was curious to see their latest whereabouts. With that said, lead singer, Eric Clayton has released this short video at the beginning of the month. In all honesty, it doesn't say much, but apparently he's been having health problems for sometime now. I'm not sure what to make out of the whole journal comment about it serving as his last interview. Any thoughts?

actually, i read the SM board at the official and they say he has 'Barret esophagus', which could turn in to cancer, but it hasnt yet. But that new video was kind of creepy.

Either case, that sucks. I was eagerly awaiting Legend III : II to come out, but wonder if it will ever now. He is an awesome singer and their Legend trilogy is just something to be heard to be believed. Some amazing stuff there.

Somehow I missed this thread, but SeaStorm told me about it last night. This is pretty bad news. Clayton has been one of my favorite vocalists for a very long time now. It's been hard not having anything new from him, and now we know why.

SkiBumMSP - you're dead right. The Legend trilogy is downright EPIC. It would be so amazing if he were able to finish III:II before retiring.

I really can't say much more... pretty sad about this :erk:

My Favorite Singer of all time and Saviour Machine is my favorite band. Sad that they kicked them off the stage here in MN.

Wow, when and where did that happen? I can't even believe that. I see some of the worst bands on the planet get to play a full set, why would something so creative and thought-out like SM get booted off? Was it "too offensive"?

"Despite critical acclaim from the secular press and a growing number of fans nationwide, people in some Christian circles felt threatened by Saviour Machine's bold lyrical direction and stylized stage presentation, most prominently the white make-up and jewel worn by vocalist Eric Clayton. During a 1993 tour with Christian rock band Deliverance, the controversy spilled over at a concert at the New Union, a Christian music club in Minneapolis. Several songs into their set, the power was cut and the performers were ushered from the stage. This was followed by an announcement from New Union management stating they were uncomfortable with the content of the show. However, many in the crowd gathered with band members at a local restaurant to show their continued support."

If you've ever seen the live DVD (which I HIGHLY recommend), they have some pretty gripping stage activities, including splashing fake blood on a flag of the United Nations, and (possibly, although I don't remember) the United States. Its a pretty intense show, especially for a Christian band.

Yeah, they paint all over both flags with fake blood. I was actually quite suprised while watching the DVD, and I remember thinking "Wait...Christians actually LIKE this band???" It seems to me like something fundamentalist Christian America would hate and try as hard as possible to get banned forever.

Of course, most metal fans aren't "fundamentalist Christian America" either, so I would guess that's why it works out for the band. Which is good. :)

Now if only we could all gather and ban his throat problems from his body. :(
