SAXON (with FOZZY and HALCYON WAY) North American tour!!

this is what is odd...you figure someone who has a knowledge and fan of great music would not want to do some generic style like they are doing.

I agree, but I get the feeling it's not his decision. He's an okay vocalist, but the guy worships Dio. When we saw them live, they were very generic and blah, but you could tell that what he WANTED to do was belt out Holy Diver. Maybe he just understands that isn't where his strength is. OR, maybe he's underestimating himself. Either way, I know he's a good guy with similar musical loves, I just don't like the direction he's going in personally. I will still go.

sad part is as well is that no matter what that band does....it will be wrestler Chris Jericho's band.

I figured that him already being famous would give him full control over what they're doing musically. I don't know what's going on. I just know their set was (sadly) underwhelming, and I really WANT to like them.

Seriously, if the opening band is what makes or breaks your decision to see SAXON, there's something wrong with you.

Where's the "LIKE" button when you need it. Amen to that. Saw Saxon in England and they were just amazing live. They are going to decimate some of the smaller (and a few larger) venues with their Power & sound!

You are severely underestimating the mass appeal of STUCK MOJO!!!!!
(sarcasm off).

Psh Stuck Mojo was the shit.

Also, honestly I don't get all the Fozzy sympathy. Chris Jericho is a horrible singer imo. Doesn't matter what the music would sound like.

Can't believe SAXON is playing 40 minutes from my house! I'm so there. Hopefully there's a decent turnout in Dayton, but Dayton isn't really that big. They usually don't get shows of this ilk there. It's usually the radio type bands, but they did get Diamond Head awhile back, although I heard no one was there, and I couldn't make it.

I saw Saxon in Hamburg, Germany in 99. They were awesome! I was there
to see Fairyland opening they were amazing. My fave song from Fozzy is
To kill a stranger-http://www.last.fm/music/Fozzy/Happenstance/To+Kill+A+Stranger I am so going to go and see them all at Ramona Main Stage!

SAXON Ask Fans To Choose Set List For Upcoming North American Tour

An update from Saxon frontman Biff Byford states: "As we are winding down the European Festival season, it is time to begin preparations for our upcoming tour of US and Canada together with Fozzy this September. We would like you, The Fans, to choose a set list for the North American tour – which means 12 songs plus 4 taken from the Sacrifice album. Fans around the world are invited to take part but, we want to hear specifically from the North American fans who will attend the shows.

There will be prizes for the best three set list suggestions, who will each win a copy of the new Sacrifice album t-shirt. And for the Grand Prize winner; a VIP package, Sacrifice album CD and a t-shirt. Prizes will be available to pick up at one of the shows of your choice.

Post your list on the Saxon747 site or on Facebook."

Blah!
I hate when bands do the "Choose our Setlist" thing...........
When that happens, the final setlist always ends up being the same old same old......
I have a hard time believe that fans, with a voice, truly chose the "same old same old"

Granted, I of course have no grounds to call BS on SAXON for this, as they truly MAY go with what is selected, but given the period of time between now and the start of the tour, I really doubt the band is going to be able to prepare 12 songs if selected which they currently DON'T play, if you know what I mean. Meaning, in the end, its going to be the same old, same old. Not that same old for SAXON is bad, given the number of powerhouse hits and singles they have.

This is just more of my thoughts on the whole "Fans pick the setlist" thing.....

I remember on the last tour Symphony X had fans on their Facebook page vote on what the band should play from each album on their tour (implying that they would play at least one song from each album). So what did they do? They ended up playing the entire Iconoclast album instead. So WTF was all that voting about?
