Saxon

Astonishing band. 30 years out there and not a sign of slowing down. Some better albums, some weaker albums but they never sold out. True carriers of the NWOBHM banner, one mof my favorite all-time bands.

Reminder of US tour dates this summer:
19.05.2009 US New York, NY B.B. Kings
22.05.2009 US San Antonio, Texas South Texas Rock Fest, Hemisfair Park
23.05.2009 US Houston, Texas Meridian Rock Club
11.07.2009 US Oklahoma Rocklahoma Festival
23.08.2009 US Algona, Iowa Rock Gone Wild Festival

I've always LOVED The Mighty Saxon since the very first time I heard "Princess Of The Night" in 82 on the radio on 96 ROCK!!!!

Somehow I missed that one being played, but I do remember hearing "The Eagle Has Landed" on 96rock, and I've been hooked ever since. I also remember "Broken Heroes" and "Rock N' Roll Gypsy" receiving plenty of airplay on TV69.

I have every disc, except for Destiny .

I kind of fell off the wagon after Destiny, but I picked back up on the band when Dogs Of War came out, and I've been a die-hard fan ever since, even going back to rediscover Solid Ball Of Rock and Forever Free, having skipped them the first time around (thanks to Destiny).

I've only seen them once, on the Unleash The Beast tour (the only time they've ever played here), but I would LOVE to see them again.

The consistency of each release for the last 20 years is incomparable to anyone else I listen to, and this period doesn't even include what are considered to be their "classic" albums.

Saxon are as important to metal as Maiden and them. They need to play the mighty prog power!!! But I thought the same about Rage ( who F*****G Rule!!) and whatched them sing to an empty house at Prog Power. Never the less Saxon are Gods of Metal!:flame:

I couldn't agree more with each of these statements.

But I thought the same about Rage ( who F*****G Rule!!) and whatched them sing to an empty house at Prog Power.

I'm sure that would be a concern, EXCEPT for this statement:

Never the less Saxon are Gods of Metal!:flame:

I'm not knocking Rage at all, but I think Saxon are much more of a known commodity among the mainstream. While Rage similarly have a daunting catalogue from which to choose for the uninitiated, you don't have to go in to very much detail when telling people "where to start" with Saxon: you can tell them to buy the first disc or the most recent disc with similar confidence...basically, you can get away with saying "buy anything you can find, except for Destiny" (apologies to anyone in this thread who previously said they like the Destiny album ).

The Saxon show at BB King's in NYC last night was amazing! The played almost two hours in a nearly sold-out venue (I'm terrible at estimating how many people are at a show, but I do know you could hardly move!). The audience was totally into the show, and my only complaint is that they didn't play twice as long!

I'm extremely envious of anyone who was at that show!

According to Blabbermouth, here is what they played:

01. Battalions Of Steel
02. Heavy Metal Thunder
03. Demon Sweeney Todd
04. Strong Arm Of The Law
05. Power And The Glory
06. The Letter
07. Valley Of The Kings
08. The Eagle Has Landed
09. And The Bands Played On
10. Hellcat
11. Dallas 1PM
12. 20,000 Feet
13. Wheels Of Steel

Encore 1:

14. Live To Rock
15. Motorcycle Man
16. Crusader

Encore 2:

17. Never Surrender
18. 747 (Strangers In The Night)
19. Denim And Leather
20. Princess Of The Night

That is a fantastic set list; I would have walked away very happy having witnessed this show :kickass:

There's also some video from the show available for anyone who wants to click through the Blabbermouth link:

Fan-fucking-tastic show. Among the better gigs I've seen. My only set list complaint is that the only post-Crusader material they played was off of the new album. Other than that, a really enjoyable evening all around. My friend and I were right on the rail in front of Paul Quinn. This was the first US Saxon gig in seven years, and the first since I've gotten into them. Well worth the years of waiting.

Yeah Saxon has always been a great band, I have never got to see them..I have all their stuff, very underrated band here, I stumbled on them when i got Innocence is No Excuse in 1985, So i went back and got their older stuff, then ever since i have picked any new realease from them up, Its really sad to know i will never see them most likely..but will always enjoy them!!

Fabulous show! This was my first Saxon show, and being in the photo pit for the first few songs was pretty amazing. They really belong on a big stage, but seeing them in an intimate setting like BB King's was damn cool, to say the least.

Photos and article coming soon....
