Scar Symmetry - Slaves To The Subliminal (Stems Content)

I came back to the project and made two new mixes. Only difference between these two mixes is different OD on the guitar tones.

I'll post mixes with vocals soon.

You did not respect the tempo of the song.

Did you notice that in your sample, all the vocals are lower in tempo than your drums ?

If I had used a different tempo than it was originally, the drums would be out of time with the guitars.

Hi everybody!
Here's my mix:

I started to learn how to record and mix a few days ago, so it would be great if you can give your opinion :D

Hope you like it!

Hey guys,

This is my attempt, Re-amped with 5150 into Harley Benton 2x12 Vintage boosted with a TS9, used a SM57 on the cab. Kick is a blend of slate and one of my own, snare is a blend of 3 samples Signals Audio Kraken Snare and two DB Drums samples.

The guitars are very fatiguing, is it because it's mastered too loud or do you need eq the guitars. Observe the s's on the vocals, they're very present.

Had some time to give it one more shot: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2309705/slaves_12.mp3. Also added some stuff to match the original track.
Nice! Really like it.

A lot of bass. Listen to it on different speakers, you'll probably hear it too.

Here's my version:

Was a lot of fun. Tried a few different techniques than what I normally do. The vocals had a lot of room in them for some reason so I tried to remove it with some narrow eqing, wasn't as effective as I'd hoped but oh well.

If someones interested I've edited the midi how I like it, nothing quantized and heavily edited velocities. Give it a try if you want.

Let me know if it doesn't work, I don't export midis often...

@ Plankis --> If you're refering to the Clean Vocals (I did it) , I think I have a big problem with voices recording... I think that the room is not good (too much reverb, I have to buy some isolation like carpet or whatever to reduce the room...) and I have another problem, which comes from the mic I think, is the nazal sound and the SSSSSS which is too much present...

I recorded vocals with the Audio Technica AT2020, it seems not to be really good mic...

I'm interested of how you managed to reduce those bad things with your EQ processing

Could you post the screen shot of your EQ or give me precise details of how you EQ it ?

Because with my mic + room , I have the same pb with all my projects regarding vocals and it is an issue for me... because I never success to have beautiful vocals...

Sure,

I just sweeped around with a very narrow Q and found places were it resonated more and sounded like crap. Like Mr. Kent does here with the guitars: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/f-o-h/797296-yt-clark-kent-mixing-tutorial.html

It's probably the mic, you should try a dynamic mic like a SM58. The bleed will be significantly less, I own a SM58 and don't have any problems with room sound in my 5x5 meter bedroom with a bed, pc and a angled roof. But since you're obviously talented and serious about your singing I suggest you buy a SM7 and be done with it.

Edit: Realized the picture isn't perfect. I like the meter in Ferox to come close to 0 or louder on the loudest parts. Seventh angel gain reduction around -10dB. Spitfish lights up all lamps on the loudest s's. Thrillseekers GR is around -3.

Thanks a lot for your informations Plankis and thanks too for the compliments.

I will try first to take your settings as general basis if it feets better and will try with another mic if not.
