Scored an early JCM 800!!

Yeah man, seriously - I'm not sure, I'm kinda iffy about those amps being good for the kind of high-gain I like, but I'm definitely interested in hearing it! I just hope you have a TS lying around, something tells me you'll need the gain ;)

Thanks dudes!

Yeah, Marcus, the Marshall sound isn't for everyone. I just absolutely adore the raw tone they produce. The 800 isn't a gain monster without a boost, but gives a sweet tone without it regardless. I actually built a 50 watt Plexi clone that sounds awesome as well.

Clips for sure!

Open, raw marshall distortion > *

THis.

Hey, I'll believe it when I hear it - and what does "asterisk" mean, praytell?

* = everything

I just love the open, fairly uncompressed (as far as high gain amps go) tone they have.

Not much gain but that's where clarity and tightness come in (along with the monstrous playing abilities we all have )

I'm down with almost everything high gain but cranked/boosted marshalls :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy:notworthy

Thats one of the early ones, which is great, same as the JMP master volume I'm believe. This is the same model head we used on the stuck Mojo albums, you just need a soldano hot mod in the second pre amp slot.

There's no description at eBay anymore, but I'll just comment that you need to remember to mod the amp for US mains voltage (120 V), since England uses 240 V mains. That is, unless the amp was made for US markets, in which case it already has a 120 V transformer.

that is fucking sweet dude, just got an 800 myself.. you will be a happy happy man!! so so punchy!

and ps tornio... not on the 800s, they have switchable voltage transformers!!

Thanks dudes! I'm very excited indeed. I'm definitely overdue for a gear purchase, haha. Thanks for the info. on the voltage as well.

Marcus, there's really not much to believe, haha. They have a specific sound that most cats dig or not. I also like to play rock, thrash, etc. so it's perfect for that! I have a 5150 for my brutalz \m/. Hell, these can get plenty brutal with a boost as well, it's just a different type of sound.

And yes, they are very punchy!! My 50 watt Plexi clone just hits you when cranked. I love the raw power of Marshalls.

Cheers

Yeah, make no mistake, I'm no "brutalz" lover by any means, but IME I've never really been impressed by Marshalls - I love the EL34/84 "bark" (my Tiny Terror did it with great gusto, I miss that little guy :(), and have always been a mids guy, but the sound I've heard from Marshalls just hasn't had the aggression I like; Andy I think hit the nail on the head with a mod really helping, but like I said, I'm really curious to hear what yours can do stock! Truthfully, the only example I can think of for the 800 tone is Slayer's...no thanks :zombie:

have you played an 800?

Nope, that's why I'm staying open-minded :) But I have played a JVM, and was not impressed (though the guitar wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't horrible either)
