This guy is a genius.

I heard about Mike listening to him but I never bothered checking out his music...

Then I saw this documentary about him http://www.scottwalkerfilm.com/blog/

Afterwards I bought a bunch of his solo albums...quality stuff! Some of his quiet orchestral stuff is actually quite similar to the new Ulver cd, this guy really knows how to capture a certain atmosphere and feeling. I'm hooked...

You can check out the trailer here

and scott walker is wonderful. older stuff, and newer stuff

lol derb. I did find it intriguing, it just wasn't very pleasant. anyway the new Opeth is going to sound like it, so you'd better get used to it! :ill:

maybe it's the pretentia factor that made me hate it. i can't imagine mike sounding like this guy btw.

i got into him with the drift and i found that record to be one of the best of 2006...had never heard such a music. i know it's hard to digest but hell, it was the scariest thing i had ever heard...and i loved it!

still have to check out his old stuff, though.

Scott Walker is a legend, old and new stuff.

The Drift is one of the best albums to listen to when stoned.. Creates such an awesome atmosphere.. However, some might just shit their pants ahaha..

The Drift was fantastic, always up for an album that presents something new every time I listen...and genuinely creeped me out while listening. Honestly, though, I don't see why this album is considered so pretentious. Being that he hadn't released an album since '95 (and that album being what it was), one could only expect him to further down the spiral of testing the aural/sonic worlds...with quite a heap of material.

He got together many people, developed a distinct sound world for every song while letting each flow into one other, presented hordes of different sound textures, really researched his lyrics and did something that is damn hard to touch. Perhaps those who call it overly pretentious are in the boat of "just because you can do it doesn't mean you should," but I know quite well that I couldn't envelope myself with a project so deeply for so long...at least not at this point in my life.

At 63 years old, he's doing what he finds musically interesting...and it's a whole lot better than what a lot of the other musical genres are offering these days.
