Scott's machine gun like rhythm

I was listening to SOWN again this morning on my way to work, and I just can't see how people can compare it to grunge. I just don't get it.

(PS - See, Brat?...another tangent and we're back onto Anthrax and off of Thra:rofl:ude's, uh, "practice" )

Compared to the older Anthrax albums, the downtuned guitars and heavier distortions are seem influenced by the grunge movement... but I don't think it's grunge either! :D

(This sounds like another tangent coming on... :) )

"You know, a lot of people think grunge music has had it's day in the sun. What do you think about that?"
"Uh... we're not a grunge band."
"Well, I was listening to the album, and it's pretty heavy."
"Just because something's heavy doesn't make it grunge..."
"Well, punk! You know what I mean! That, rock, aggressive..."
"Industrial."
"Yeah! Industrial."
"We're not an industrial band."

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then it makes it all the funnier. :D

"Yeah, so John, is there any guitar work on this album that you're particularly proud of?"
"Uhhh, you should ask Scott, since he's the guitarist."
"Yeah, actually, some of the best guitar work on the album was done by Dimebag Darrel."
"Right, from Pant-ura."

How can anyone trash SOWN? This is a GREAT album. Honestly, it is one of my favorites of all time, in all genres.

Grunge?

I think not!

Dave Jerden produced Alice in Chains, but also Armored Saint's "Symbol of Salvation". And, there my friends, is ANOTHER album for the ages.

I can hear similarities between SOWN & SOS, but grunge? NOT!!! Metal, all the way!!

And besides, I always thought "GRUNGE" is what I got in my underwear after a long night of Blatz drinking, and eating Slim Jims!!

People who don't like SOWN make me wanna :puke: :puke: :puke:

PS--Happy belated "Bratday", Brat!

I agree mang, there is no way that SOWN is a grunge sounding album. In fact, when I was in Seattle all my seattle friends use to get pissed off at me for playing SOWN(since they were all blinded by grunge) cause they were like "Get the fucking metal shit out of the stereo" and I was like "Shut up man, you can't fuck with Scott Ian", needless to say, in my opinion SOWN is a different type of metal sound(especially for Anthrax) but this album opened up the style that they have achieved today, and it is certainly a metal album 2 me!

Another thing, I don't know who anyone could bash that album!

"But that's just one fellow's opinion" -George Carlin-

Cheerz!

I agree with all of you... Scott's rhythm on earlier stuff is incredible.
I already mentioned this earlier but I'll say it again: Jon Schaeffer from Iced Earth is one of rare rhythm players in Scott's league..
Just try playing any of the up-tempo Iced Earth stuff and your picks will melt and your wrist will fall off... I shit you not! I'm typing with one hand right now ;)

Peace!

Very true. Plus Iced Earth's guitar tone kicks ass!

thanks for the response people i might just crank that song and give an updated opinion u cant all be wrong bout that song!!!!
Hey, opinions are opinions. If you don't like it, don't apologize, and don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong for stating a preference. If the popular majority was always right, none of us would be listening to Anthrax right now period.

But go ahead and give it another listen anyway...if you change your mind, we'll be here to mosh it up with you :headbang:
