coc rocks, pepper was one of my main influences throughout my teenage years.

but yeah, sleep, st vitus, HIGH ON FIRE and soilent green (a little thrashier) are all awesome bands in the same vein

man, Dopesmoker was really hard to make it all the way. it took a few tries. there are some pretty killer riffs in there, though.

maybe Soilent Green? not quite the same as Down, but part of the whole New Orleans scene. maybe a bit too fast for stoner metal.

unfortunately only phil, pepper and windstein can churn out tunes like "stone the crow" or "rehab"

Something from less metal side - check out Lynyrd Skynyrd. They had some heavy tracks and influenced Down for sure.
