note that this isn't really a review but my first impressions, i'm starting to really love this album! the rating are at the end (out of 10)

Ghost Of The Sun - At first, i didn't like this one all that much, there is a little screaming in it (not very much and more in the background too) Very modern metal influenced but still very dark, a good agressive opener - 8

Sleeper - An interesting song, a lot of effects going on in the verse part, and some other very mellow parts, it still gives you that bitter vibe and is depressing also, I dig this - 8

Criminals - a very dark and bitter song, destined to be one of the most memorable songs on the discs, tremendous chorus complete with heavy guitars and lush effects, one my favorites as for now. 10

A Premonition - Jesus christ is this song beautiful, very mellow and maybe the most gothic song on this album this is fucking great 10

Will I Arrive - Not one of the strongest songs on the disc, slight modern metal influence. it's catchy, memorable and dark but probably won't be one of my favorites 7

Burn the Rememberance - very impressive song, not extremely heavy and not very mellow but just right, moving and driving chorus, maybe comparable to something from the last album since there is a bit of lead guitar in this, amazing 9

Wealth - I don't know what to make of this song, I love most of it but there is this really heavy part that just doesn't belong. But like I said most of the song is beautiful
7

One year from now - This sounds like a sad bluegrass goth song and then gets really heavy, not too sure of this haha it's cool but not typical 6

Walking By A Wire - sounds like this song could have been fucking incredible, the lyrics are great and the chorus is monsterous, theres a part of it that sounds like it doesn't fit though 8

Complicity - One of the better songs on the cd, very beautiful song and addictive chorus 9

Evidence - maybe the best song on the album, it's upbeat but so very melodic, a masterpiece 10

Omerta - This sounds like an irish folk song, very mellow and it's really good and just ends! I love this 9

Inside the City Of Glass - Katatonia WOULD tease us (well the older brave murder day fans) with a doom metal anthem, no vocals just atmospheric heavy melodic metal with choir like synths =) 10

and mine...

Ghost Of The Sun - the song with the most nu metal sound in the album...the chorus are damn cathcy, but it starts to be boring after couple of listens...7

Sleeper - I find it annoying, maybe just heard it too much, but the main riff just gets on my nerves 5

Criminals - great song, with the mellow-heavy-mellow scheme...the melodies are fucking amazing...the lyrics seem stupid. 10

A Premonition - too doo doo...:) very sweet mellow song.
the beginning sounds a bit like some bed time lullaby, maybe it has to do with the fact that jonas becoming a daddy soon? 10

Will I Arrive - downfall...my least favorite track, mood changing stuff...the chorus are weak here, where's the catchiness?!:) 5

Burn the Rememberance - great song...something between their mellowness and the more heavy parts...electronic stuff in the background can be heard. cool.

Wealth - some HEADBANGING intro (sounds a bit like Deliverance by Opeth), then a mellow part...and there are switches between those parts for the whole song...it's alright

One year from now - the first mellow half is great...but then the stupid distorted vocals ruining it.

Walking By A Wire - this song fucking gives me energy
amazing chorus, everything here is perfect. THE BEST SONG OF THE ALBUM!!!

Complicity - another catchy one

Evidence - yeah, fucking great...but it would've been nice if they could write more than two sentences instead of repeating the main chorus all the time:)

Omerta - the best mellow song...

Inside the City Of Glass - amazing atmospheric instrumental outro, it's not doom but very gloomy indeed. Gives you some flashbacks of their previous releases...

the album is soooo catchy that he becomes boring very fast...but yet, it's has really great melodies, and a fresh feeling and sound to it.

up the katatoniks!

I have to question the musical knowledge or hearing capabilities of anybody who thinks parts of the music are nu-metal in the slightest. It's just not. There are no similarities WHATSOFUCKINGEVER!

i just said that Ghost of the Sun has a nu metal sound to it, i didn't say it's completely nu metal.
I question YOUR music knowledge if you can't hear the obivous nu metal elements there...the main riff in the chorus, the screams in the background, the language... it sounds more hardcorish and everything.

I agree, I just listened to these two tracks again, they are both excellent!!!

The only review I have to make is, it hasnt left my CD player since last wednesday, and it is inching on becoming my all time favorite album....ever. Something about it, I cant explain it, the vocal melodies are the amongst the most heavenly sounds I have heard in my entire life. Its like crack, so addicting this album is.

Anyone notice the huge Opeth influence in the intro of track 7? E Bow and all! hehe

My Review:

The album shows a facinating change for katatonia, obviusly from playing live over the last year you get into a rut with slow songs, they have uplifted there sound if you can except that you will still hear all of the old katatonia tucked away in there.
