I heard North From Here probably 6 years ago or so, and remember it being pretty good. Unfortunately, I never got to hear the band's supposed magnum opus, Amok. People say this is a mix of death metal and heavy metal with a bit of rock sensibility. My question is, is it really that good?

I always did like Jarva's vocals, and North From Here was a good death metal album with doomy and melodic elements. Also, their The Trooper EP is supposed to really good.

What's everyone's take on Sentenced's early works?

PS - lets not discuss the pseudo suicide rock with the gay singer that the band became after Jarva left.

Amok blows just like the rest of Sentenced. I have it on tape, want to trade for something, like one of them thar Fudge Tunnel albums? Or a discount off it or something?

really? everyone hails it as a classic! interesting....

Amok is the only Sentenced album I haven't heard, other than their newest one, Cold Light or something. Down, Frozen and Crimson were the musical equivalent of reality tv. Pure ass.

Everyone but me, yeah. I never saw what the big deal was but I didn't listen to it more than 5 times. I really dislike Sentenced though, old and new = boring and boringer.

I got into Sentenced with Crimson and I think all their albums are excellent. I can't pick out a favourite album because they're all great.

These guys actually could write a great song once, namely Nepenthe. Amok is a decent release (I'd still sample it first if you hate everything else from them), but hardly the best Finnish metal album ever as some fans claim it is.

That would be Elegy, right? Or the new Moonsorrow?

I like Crimson, Cold White Light, and Frozen.

Strangely, I've never heard their old stuff with Jarva on vocals. Maybe it's time to give it a try...
