So I've been lurking on the Maryland Deathfest forum, ever since I purchased my tickets for that fest. And I've heard a few people referring to bands as being "crustcore"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crustcore

I'm not quite sure whether to chalk this little tid bit of information under the heading of, "you learn something new everyday" or "another piece of gray matter wasted".

Horrible horrible horrible stuff. I had to deal with "Crusties" in high school, and they were just some of the worst people on the planet. :(

Not showering coupled with an AWFUL cologne/perfume is a part of their sub culture. Music sucked balls too.

My vote is for the latter. :b

I like a few crust bands but I'm not all that familiar with the genre...

I've never heard it called "crustcore" though. Always just heard of crust punk. But it's a legitimate genre that's been around for a while.

Well, just like metalcore, I would assume crust core is false crust. Crust core is pretty much militant political hardcore. It's followers show their dedication to its ideals by acting poor (IE - not showering, begging outside of shows for $$$ so they can enter, etc). Pretty much punk's answer to the hippie movement.

Though, just like with today's college hippies, they are mostly rich kids who after begging for the "miracle" to get in the show, they jump into mom's minivan to drive home!!!

Does this mean the Prog Power "Stinkies" who have been reported filling parts of the main floor with their less than hygenic odors , might be crustcore fans/followers?:u-huh::yuk::lol:

That wikipedia article just forwards you to Crust Punk, so it just seems to be another name for it.

I really like some of the bands in the genre: Disfear, Tragedy, Disrupt, Wolfbrigade.

crust core is the more "heavy" offshoot of crust punk

there are some crust bands that are ok, IMHO...it's their followers who skeeve me out

Zod, just beware and stand UPwind of the crusties, that's all i'm sayin--they're called crusty for a reason

(this from a proto-punk elder-goth metal head who gets lost when people start adding new sub-cultures in ... i'm old, i don't get it....)

I hate the fans of crust more than I hate the music...but it is a subgenre of punk, which is just not my taste.

That forum is nuts, though. A lot of assholes post there (or a lot of dudes pretending to be assholes due to their anonymity), but it can be entertaining every now and then.

Crust Core is a mixture of crust punk and hardcore. I don't see how it's any different than describing something as progressive power metal. If you can get past the fans, there are actually some really good crust bands out there. A lot of them cite their main influence as Bolt Thrower's first 2 albums. If you keep an open mind, you might find some of it that you like.
BTW Zod, the only band on this year's MDF that can remotely be considered crust is Bolt Thrower. The others are grind and powerviolence. Damn all these sub-genres.

The MDF forum is a bunch of internet tough guys. Don't take it seriously. I've been to the festival every year since '05 and never had any problems. I rarely post on their forum because it is hard to get a serious response.
