SHAGRATH LEFT DIMMU

Well apparantly Shagrath writes a lot of the music which is why I say kick Balder out, put Shagrath on guitar, and let Simen do epic vocals all the time. Bam, instant 50 times better Dimmu Borgir.

I personally don't think this would work at all. First of all, I'm a fan of Shag's vocals, along with many other people. Secondly, a good part of the reason Simen's vocals sound so epic is in contrast with Shagrath's vocals. If Simen was the lead vocalist, I think this would completely take away from the epicness that his occasional vocals produce.

Depends. i really like the epicness of both styles, especially the contrast. these are also really well think of and organized in the song. Check out for Arcturus if you want to hear more of Silenoz epic voice, its the complete contrary of Dimmu, and it kicks ass as well! (Sideshows symphonies album)

You do mean Simen Vortex right? not Silenoz.

This thread wins The Most Bullshit of the Year Award 2008.

Seriously though, there is absolutley no indication of Shagrath ever even wanting to leave the band anywhere

He would not leave anytime soon.
It would be absolutely retarded if he left anytime soon.
Its dumb to even speculate that he will leave anytime soon.
End of story.

You say it's about the contrast between him and Shagrath, but Vortex's grim vocals are far superior to Shagrath's anyway. Not to mention he doesn't need studio magic to do it.

Why would you even bother comparing their vocals? Its like the old "apples and oranges" thing. They're completely different. Just because you seem to prefer Simen's, doesn't mean they're superior. Don't get me wrong, I love Vortex's voice too, but if you've heard him live, its not always quite as good as the albums. And sure, on more recent albums, Shagrath's vocals have been frigged around with alot(which I don't like). But with past albums being proof, along with live performances, he does just fine without the layering and studio magic.
I guess what it comes down to, is that Dimmu Borgir just wouldn't be Dimmu Borgir without Shagraths vocals. Noone would recognize them as the same band if the vocal position was changed so dramatically.

Agree, same as if Cradle of Filth loose Dani Filth's vocals. but thats another story. And already anyway, as much as i know of Dimmu, which is Stormblast, Puritanical and Death Cult (judge by yourself), the coming of Galder changed already everything, although it benefited greatly - in a new way, different - Dimmu. But im speaking of only my opinion and what i know.

Gonna see them live with Behemoth, Vital Remains, Shadows Fall, Hate Eternal, Municipal Wastes, and Keep of Kalessin. psyched.
