here_'s a small shootout between the RME ADI-8 DS and the Apogee rosetta.

the RME was clocked via lightpipe by hdsp9256, apogee and internal clock

so this are actually two shootouts.

RME vs Apogee (both internally clocked)

and RME clocked by different masters

apogee vs. RME

the zip-folder contains the files and a short info.rtf

don't expect night/day differences.

I think I liked the apogee a tiny bit better than the rme but am not even 100% sure about that ;)

I do like the internal clocking better than external clocking though

I think the freq response of the Apogee is more 'analogue-like'. It seems to try to fatten out the midbass and low mids a bit, whereas the RME tends to be a bit more clinical and 'tight' sounding. From what I can hear briefly.

I only listened to the internal clock clips. Unless a converter has an inherently bad internal clock, external clocking will only hinder its performance. That much I've learned from reading what Dan Lavry has posted all over the forums.

Thanks for the test.

I actually think the apogee hypes the high-end a bit more an has a slight boost in the bass (like you stated already).

you're right about the internal clocks...unfortunately, when recording more than 8ch you have to go with one master, so you won't be able to have all your converters clocked internally.
that's actually why I did this shootout I wanted to find out which device should be the master. (I do have some more converters that I could use as a master but I wanted to keep this test simple)

To me the Apogee sounds more ..hm..flat and the RME sounds a bit fuller and more dynamic. It's probably an abstract description but the differences really are small.
