Bryan316 mentioned in the Texas Madfest thread the correlation of regional foods to the fests he visits. And since I have a vacation planned in March for the Charleston, SC region, I was wondering if any of you Carolinians could recommend not only restaurants, but also let me know if there's any live music (preferably metal) the week of Mar 12th-16th? Also, are there can't-miss things to see and do in the area? We want to do the ferry ride out to Fort Sumter; maybe a carriage ride one afternoon; see the antebellum homes and botanical gardens in the area; and possibly the aquarium. Are there any tourist traps to avoid? :zombie:

And if anyone lives near the Charleston area, I'd be happy to meet up with you later one evening for dinner and/or drinks and convo'. I'm always up for catching up with ProgPower friends and family on my road trips! :) Hit me up in a private message and I'll send contact info.

Thanks!

Yea, BLS is the only thing I can think of right now. I really like Zakk's playing and all but not too crazy about BLS so I doubt I'll be making the shows. I am hoping for some good shows to be announced for NC or SC soon though.

If you are a military 'fan', I'd recommend going to Patriot's Point, as that's where you'll have to catch the ferry to Fort Sumter, but if you pay some more $$ you can tour the carrier Yorktown, a submarine, and some other ships. It's well worth the time while you're waiting for your scheduled boat out to the Fort.

Also military related but in a different part of Charleston is the confederate submarine Hunley:

You'll find plenty of restaurants and watering holes of all prices/styles if you set out on foot around the downtown-- it's a great place to just kind of wander.

yeah, and that's exactly why we're headed in that direction this year: lots of rich history to explore. We made it up to the Hershey/Harrisburg/Gettysburg areas of Pennsylvania the week after ProgPower last year for vacation, and that was some beautiful country up there! And we stopped at Antietam Battlefield in Maryland on the way there, and came back through Washington, D.C. - all of this was new to us. And it was all very amazing to see. :worship:

I definitely plan to tour the ships at Patriot's Point. Thanks! And I want to spend some time if the weather is nice enough just walking around downtown to take in the sites and the restaurants. Yeah! *rubs belly* :D

You know, [Jesters Pub] seems to pull some pretty good bands. I believe House of Lords and Metal Church are playing there sometime soon as well.

is that also the same venue where Overkill plays when they come to Fayetteville? I noticed the past couple of times that they made it anywhere near the southeast, they made stops in both Fayetteville and Jacksonville, NC. The next time they do that, I guess I'll be making a road trip! :kickass:

Yes, that's the place-- it's also the farthest south the Enslaved tour is making it...
