Hello

New to the forum. I have lots of things to ask and show you but, for the moment, I really need to know this... which of these 2 mics is better for recording electric guitar? I play death/thrash metal by the way, don't know if that's relevant.

I'll post about my band and my recording setup later on... thanks!

There are no such thing as better or worse, just taste...
The Sennhesiser, if a remember right, emphasize around 100Hz and the sm57 around 2kHz. Which means that e609 sounds a bit darker and the sm57 a bit brighter. But remember that it is not only the mic that does the sound, the amp, the room, the cab, the position of the mic, your preamp etc. Just try them both out and see which one you like best.

If you own or have access to both throw them both on a speaker and at the same time and pick which you like better.

(james you have the most impressively eclectic listening habits I've ever witnessed!)

I think both are great, but i also sometimes throw a Sennheiser 421 into the mix. I've got good guitar tones with that mic as well which i also use when miking toms as well.
