Shut up all of you

Listening on the myspace now.

"Vacuity" sounds like vocalist listened way too much to Hypocrisy's "Abducted" or "Hypocrisy" and liked the kinda annoying vocal effects. Music doesn't really get anywhere. Sounds like an impotent Strapping Young Lad toward the end. Time for the next song now :p

"From The Sky". More groovy riffs that really doesn't get anywhere. This song has a semi decent tremolo that just about any Death Metal band could come up with. Verse riffs are utterly annoying and the band sounds like Darkane more than anything else. The fact that they repeat the same things 80 times does not help their case. They've played two diffrent riffs over two minutes now. And wow, here comes yet another riff that really doesn't get anywhere either. Just sounds like verse riff with more driving drums.

Gojira is great because they have something oldchool death metal had that most death metal today doesn't, and that's atmosphere.

While everyone else is trying to get their blast beats up to 300 bmp, Gojira is working on creating a sound of their own and exploring territory beyond "speed" and "brutality"

they are a huge refreshment in today's sea of boring new faster-than-thou bands and bands that try really hard to replicate death metal from the early 90s.

good atmosphere in DM : Incantation(old) -- Dead Congregation(new)

bad atmosphere with these gay ass stop and go--appeal to kids who only like metalcore riffs : Gojira

I've been diggin' Gojira lately. Good stuff to throw on while at the Gym.

I don't mind how Gojira repeats riffs a lot, or play them longer than what everyone else considers typical... because the riffs are fucking heavy, awesome, and good. I'll admit that a lot of their stuff sounds like their influences, but they put it all together perfectly and throw their own atmospheric element on top of it.

They don't just groove out all the time though either. They actually get pretty technical in a lot of the parts on a lot songs, but they don't overdo it to the point of "Hey look at what we can do!!" They groove nice and good, and then they throw in a quick brain fuck to keep you thinking, and here and there they'll go down the tech path as for as long as they groove out sometimes. I dunno, it's kind of the perfect musical combination of everything I like about metal. I love super heavy pummeling riffs with lots of fast double bass, and I love the quirky tricks they throw in randomly that confuse me.

The drummer is the best part of the band. I absolutely love the way that guy plays. Some might call it "stop and go" bullshit, but I think about what the drummer is doing and it's really cool how they put those kind of things together. To me, they sound like a big huge fucking freight train that can stop and go at will, and you never ever ever know when it's coming.

Gojira encompasses every single element I appreciate in metal, right down to the lyrics and their take on the world. It's this combination of everything that makes them one of my all time favorites. I can understand how people lump them in genres and compare them other things they don't like. That's human nature. I'm just glad I'm able to see past it to how great this band really is.

Stefan, listen to this song. It's from their second album and not on their MySpace player. This song really shows their quirky heaviness. The part from about 1:38 - 2:45 or so clearly defines what makes this band so great to me. They don't warn you before they change riffs, and even though they might repeat the general idea of the riff, they're always doing something different, especially the drummer. Also from 4:00 onwards = epic epic epic. Tell me it wouldn't be fucking fun as shit to be that drummer!

And just for good measure... my current favorite Gojira song. This one grooves a bit more, but I still think it's a pretty unique song, and the last half is also super epic.

See the dude that comes on stage with the Gojira banner towards the end? That'll be me if they ever play this song when I see them live.

I fucking <3 Gojira.

about the drummer, also the drum sound on from mars is great...it has a lot of natural room for a death metal band. kinda like neurosis meets morbid angel as far as the tone of the drums are concerned.

Gojira fucking slays. there song "Love" is a song that would be awesome to see live. when i drive home from work ill put in the CD and play that track, and just crank it up loud, really gets my blood pumping towards the end. I think they are all around a great band, and from what i have seen on you tube, i would make a trip to go see them perform.

That's one of my most favorite Gojira riffs. I damn near posted that song with those other vids. The verses absolutely slay too. I'd almost go as far aas to say these guys might be the heaviest band ever. I dare someone to post something heavier than this verse riff.

Fuck it, right? Here's the best live version I've found:

I made too many edits and now this post is confusing :\
