Is there anyone out there that can provide me with any information on Sieges Even, the German progressive band featuring Oliver and Alex Holzworth. I have heard that it is a very impressive band, but i haven't heard anything from them. Could someone enlighten me.

Check out my review for their latest album:

Also there's a recent interview with their guitarist Markus Steffen:

All in all, this is a great band. I think their new one is quite different from their previous two as Markus, the original guitarist, returned to the fold and the uber-technical jazz approach to songwriting has taken a back seat. I say if you wanna check them out, start right with their new one and work your way backwards.

I just bought their latest CD. More Prog Rock than Prog Metal. Cool vibe. Well played, but with a lot of restraint. Great harmonies.

Well. Zod if you bought it and like it in the least, then i will order it today. I respect your ear for music and your take on it also. Thanks for the info.

I think Hawk, the moderator of the Ultimate Metal Old School-forum would be delighted to enlighten you.

Their first album "Life Cycle" sounds somewhat similar to Watchtower´s "Control And Resistance" (complex thrash metal played on a high technical level), which is probably the reason why some people regard Sieges Even as a Watchtower-clone. It´s ridiculous, because "Life Cycle" was released a year before "Control And Resistance" and the albums which followed afterwards all sound very different from "Control And Resistance" and also from each other. Their third album "A Sense Of Change" can hardly be classified as metal at all, on "Change of Seasons" the vocals are accompanied just by a string quartet and acoustic guitar. Already the second album "Steps" featured some parts with strings and a piano and is far from being a typical metal album. (It also features my favourite cover artwork of all Sieges Even albums.)

It´s somewhat difficult to recommend one specific album, because, as I already said, they are all quite different from each other. The weak spot on their first two albums are IMO the vocals. Yet still I like these albums at least as much as "A Sense Of Change" and "Sophisticated". I don´t remember their fifth album "Uneven" too well, because I hardly listened to it. I haven´t bought their new album yet, but downloaded two mp3s ("Weight" and "Where Our Shadows Sleep").
