This is sort of random, my apologies.

A friend gave me this switch years ago, I never used it. I think he may have used it for triggering RECORD in a DAW. I just found this thing in storage and tried to find some info on it online, with no luck. It has a Polarity switch on it, and a single 1/4" input/output(?!?! its not labeled) and a single "unlatched" switch.

Anyone know wtf this thing is for? And if it is indeed something I can use to "press" record without my hands, how the eff would I set it up in Reaper?

Sounds like a momentary switch in pedal form - basically means it only applies signal when you're touching it. Useful for things like tap tempo; functions where you want to activate them but not leave them activated. You'd have to somehow get Reaper to read the signal from the 1/4" and use that to trigger the record setting.

An "unlatched" switch is just a momentary switch - Signal Flex just seems to be a manufacturer of various audio accessories. As for using it as a foot switch to activate record you would need some sort of interface that supported that type of function. I use a Roland/Cakewalk V-Studio 100 as my primary audio interface and it supports using a foot switch for a variety of functions that will for one allow me to start/stop recording and such (I use a Boss FS-6 two button foot switch that has switchable latching/unlatching modes), but unless you have some way to interface it to your DAW I'd have no idea how to use it in your case.

By the way: Unlatched = momentary, Latched = Maintained (on/off)
