You know, it's probably so simple I've missed it, but how can you move effects/re-arrange their order in the mixer? :danceboy:

Say, I wanted to move i2 (Comp) to slot i4, and move i4 (EQ) to slot i2. The simple answer would be to just remove and re-add the effects, but that way you lose your settings (and I don't want to end up having thousands of preset effect saves :P )

I dont think you can really...

I think the only option is, like you said it yourself, store all those presets and insert them in the right place...

ahhh that would be great. maybe in v 4, who knows... it´s strange since Steinberg´s wavelab does it since version 5 , to say the least

Steinberg have "promised" on the Cubase forum that movable inserts are on the to do list for SX4. It`s being released in Q4 this year.

I was using Logic Audio when it was still developed for PC and it is one of the things I really missed when using Steinberg products. In Logic there is audio configuration window where you can easily move plugins around not only from one to other fx slot in one channel but independently between different slots on different channels, or make copy and paste of plugins etc. Great feature.

You can do ^this^ in Sonar, it's all drag and drop, or if you hold down 'ctrl' you can copy an effect, in the tracking screen and the console screen - plus you can apply live effects (i.e. you don't have to bounce them) to seperate parts of the same channel, which is really useful. It means say you have a vocal where a couple of lines have some chorus on, you don't have to put them on a seperate track AND you don't have to finalize those sections without having to muck about with envelopes/automation. If nothing else, it's a hell of a lot quicker and easier, and it's a lot harder to make stupid mistakes like forgetting to put the automation back down (every fucking time I do it, without fail. I'm such a 'tard).

I can't remember exactly where it was, but I saw on a forum a while ago that Steinbergs explanation for why it was STILL not implemented was that it wouldn't work with plugin delay compensation. Guess they thought that people wanted to switch them live and be able to automate it. Or, it was just a stupid excuse to get people off their back because they were too lazy to deal with it...

Yeah, is there any way to copy them though, to multiple tracks? That's one feature I was hoping for. I must've held every possible key combination on that crappy mac keyboard but all it really did was cut and paste from one track to the next.

Well after Logic Audio, Steinberg was next choice for me because I was using Cubase from time to time even back in Atari days and Nuendo later. Studio I was working in, my friends, most of people here I am working for or collaborating here are using Nuendo or Cubase, so using Sonar would be troublesome when transferring projects.

To make things sillier, Steinberg has implemented drag'n'drop of the inserts in Wavelab ages ago...
It seems to me they have a ready made code they're too lazy to implement in Cubase and Nuendo.
It is not "steinberg" really, team of people working on Cubase-Nuendo is different, and code does have not much in common with Wave Lab that is mostly work of just one man.

Hey Moonlapse

I`m not sure that this will work, cause I don`t have Pro Tools at home to check it out. But try to highlight several tracks, e.g. a drumkit, press shift+alt and insert a plug to one of the tracks.
