SIM card slot in 1st gen iLok?

McDSP, Digidesign and a few other companies used the license card for authorization in the early stages of their iLok support.

Going through the authorization process the license would be transferred from the card to the iLok key and the card then became completely useless.

Sim card is just one of many cards using physical characteristics defined in the ISO/IEC 7810 for id/smart/banking/etc cards.

So his logic is because it fits it must be a Sim Card slot?

Thats like saying just because his dick fits in his cats ass its supposed to be there ....lol

"1st generation iLoks includes a GSM SIM card slot where the dongle could accept licenses on cards similar to those used in cellular telephones. These licenses can be loaded into the dongle and the SIM card can then be discarded."

Yup back in the days of pro tools 5 and 6 you used to be able to buy a boxed copy of a plugin in a shop and it contained a card with the ilok authorisation for the plugin on it, you put the card in the ilok and the software would transfer the license off onto your ilok, then next time you sync'd your ilok to your ilok account it would show up in your account online,
Back than not everyone had an internet connection and if they did i guess the were pretty slow and prone to drop out so it was kinda dodgy trying to trust a download of a license to your ilok, but a sync is fine to drop out because you can just re-sync again later.
