Skid Row

Just heard it. While I'm a DIE hard Skid Row fan (down to owning all their new singer's CDs - which are quite good) their new album really doesn't do much for me. There are a few really good tracks, quite a few mediocre tracks and then 3 lame tracks. 3 of the songs (actually 2, they repeated 1 song) are cheap country punk songs. They seem like they'd be fun in a live setting but on a CD they seem incredibly out of place and hard to listen to. (I very much despise country)

Not a terribly great album, but if you're a fan of the 'Row, check it out. Disease is an awesome song.

I think there are bands that transcend vocalists (Van Halen, Savatage, Angra, Gamma Ray, Riot), bands that are defined by vocalists (Falconer, Motley Crue), and bands that are a combination of vocalist and music (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest).

I put Skid Row in the first category. Although they have some good music, Bach pretty much was Skid Row.

Steve in Philly

P.S. - Even since seeing him play the lead role in Jesus Christ, Superstar in Phila., my wife will always state when seeing S Bach: "Look, it's Jesus!".

I'd have to disagree. While I think they were BETTER with Baz (they certainly did their best material with him and he was a great frontman) Skid Row can survive without him. Being in a band I know what tensions different members can bring and it makes life very difficult having one member who sucks the life out of the rest. Their "New" singer is pretty good and what I've heard of Baz since he left Skid Row, his voice has certainly wained and is nowhere near as golden as what you hear on 18 and life.

Thickskin was a fine album, RPM (the new one) however just doesn't measure up. I still find it hard to believe that THE Michael Wagner didn't help produce this album a bit more, because it certainly could have used it. Many parts of it just seem rushed.

I think to compare the Bacj era of the band with the new line up is an apples and oranges kind of thing. it is really a totally differant band. I love both versions and I love this new one. Although I could have done without two versions of the weakest song on the album.

I was kind of dissapointed with "Subhuman Race", the labum is good but somehow the music was taken a direction that was'n make me confortable.

After Bach and Affuso left the band I lost interest, listened to a couple of songs of "Thickskin" and I passed.

Negative. I do own the album and I'm well aware of the line-up, but I didn't like the sound. After Bach and Affuso left I saw no point in following up the band anymore.

I can understand your stance with Bach leaving, but to be blunt, Affuso didn't bring anything "special" to the drumming department. You could insert a chimp that could keep time and you wouldn't be able to tell he wasn't in the band!!!!

The new guy plays a 4 piece. Varone was a machine on drums, that's not to descredit any of theirs drummer - all 3 are very good. Varone was simply "Better".

Not to mention he was damn hilarious. (I can't really comment on Affuso or the new guy as to their personalities)

I don't rate drummers on the size of their drum sets.
It's about technique.
I mean Lars Ulrich used a big set, as did Eric Carr, Neil Peart smokes them both... Then again I have seen some brilliant drummers that can use a bare bones set and kill, i.e. jazz, blues drummers. Flash means NOTHING.

Never been a big fan of Skid Row, but I got to meet Sebastian Bach at a Harley Davidson dealership here in Austin. He came with Queensryche as they're all riding bikes through cities/across states for their tours and raising charity for something. He seemed down-to-earth, which was a surprise after watching him act like a fucking spoiled rockstar on VH1.

Perhaps, call me a defender of original line-ups and lost causes :D The same happened with me with Thin Lizzy, no one can fill Lynnot's shoes but if only Brian Downey would have tood in the band I would have consider more the work of the "revamped" band, Gorham and Sykes are not enough for me.

On the other hand I didn't mind Stauch leaving Bling Guardian, but I'm still a bit pissed with Bobby Jarzombek leaving Riot. I'm complex.

Yeah, that is a real pity he left... I was kinda hoping he'd be back in fold after Halford rejoined JP. All in all, I'd rather have DiMeo in the lineup than him if I was to choose :D

Of course, but I like my wishes big time

Two things for me...

- Despite the fact that Bob Rock produced it, Subhuman Race is still my favorite Skid Row album. Not as heavy as Slave to the Grind, but pretty damn close. Although it IS more heavy in spots, check out "Bonehead", and the just brutal "Beat Yourself Blind". IMO, just as catchy though with "Into Another", "Frozen", "Eileen", & "Firesign".

- Secondly, I have no desire to hear a Bach-less Skid Row. Call me crazy...:erk: :Smug:

...and, on cue, Monkey Business starts to play from my XM radio. :headbang:
