The Chinas are rad, but that's because a china doesn't have to be very dynamic like crash and ride cymbals. But you can get an ok recording with em, just the Hi-hats are awful!

I have noticed that the main problem with Steven Slate cymbals is that they don't have that realistic midrange (that in general sucks, but is still very big part of hihat sound), they are all REALLY scooped.

There are 'some' good hi-hats, bells, china samples in there.

I have quite the opposite thought on them. The china is pretty much the only thing that I really like, and it cuts thru a mix quite easily. If you compare, here is real hihat and here is the "best" sounding hihat from SSD4. SUPER scooped.

My thing is, I have to go with a whole set. I can't use an SSD china, Masters one hi hat, emrald crash etc... Just sounds more fake since they're recorded with different mics and angles and all that jazz. So I go with the set that's most well rounded to me (which for me is Masters One)

I only like KICKS on SSD. In my opinion Superior 2.0 finished the war.

It's easy to get around. I use the Silent Screams crashes + rides and the Emmure Chinas and HH's

Slate cymbals sound like e-kit cymbals to me. Joey's packs work just fine for what I do.
