teaming up for the new fall Jagermeister tour ... MASTODON is a big surprise.
I am there!

Geez, I really hope Slayer don't get invited to play on Thrash of the Titans 2. They obviously have no interest in taking other real Thrash bands out on the road with them. What would be so wrong in them wanting to bring out Exodus or Death Angel?

Mastodon would be good to see live though. Who did we get last year? Hatebreed? That was disasterous.

I know Kerry King really has a hardon for Killswitch Engage, so they are no surprise.

But you are right and Exodus/Slayer tour would be killer to see.

I'm there. Can't stand Killswitch, but Slayer always rule and I've been dying to see Mastodon. I found out a day late that they played about an hour and a half away. Not a happy boy...

the dates have been announced today.
which one of you NY area fags (besides JK) is coming to see this?

11/11 NYC Roseland (Thursday)
11/12 NJ Starland Ballroom (Friday)

I think I might go to the Starland show .. been hearing a lot of good things about this place and want to check it out. And I am going right upfront for this show ... fuck it ... mosh pit or not ... will battle the pit. :D

I've heard Starland is a great venue, but the bouncers are assholes all pretending that they're secret service. Roseland however is one big fucking pit. Front, back, when it's Slayer, the whole place erupts into frenzy.

yes .. i keep forgeting about NJ and their "rules" ... Starland is a nice new shinny venue, they might be trying to keep it civil there.

will see as it gets closer ... might have to do Roseland ... doesn't matter to me.

They're playing in Cincy on Nov. 21. I'm there.

The Mastodon album just may be the best of the year for me. Its damn near perfect.

December
14 - The Warfield in San Francisco, CA *
15 - House of Blues in Las Vegas, NV *
16 - Soma in San Diego, CA *
17 - Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, CA *

* = wall of blood = I shall go to one of these.

the one in cinci is without the wall of blood. Damn shame. For some reason it sounds interesting to be covered by fake blood while hearing Raining Blood.

Anyone else hear that Araya has been oredered to cancel some shows, because of overuse of his vocal chords. I wonder if this will present a continuing problem and threat for the remaining shows?

I'm gonna be at the Bogarts show too. Really stoked to see Mastodon.

my 34 year old body is bruised and battered ... i decided last night to brave the pit for one last time ... for the God's ... Slayer. Was all the way upfront, out of breath, still fucking deaf as I write this and just thinking at the time ... "if I die now ...it's OK! ... I died at a Slayer show" ... I know that's crazy ... but I love these fuckers so much.

Since I am 6'7" (over 2M for you Euro folk) ... Araya locked eyes and we sang some verses of Necrophiliac and Angel of Death together, then gave me that evil grin ... which in teh gay way ... made me giggle like a girl ... and all of of a sudden made all the money spent on metal over 20 years ... all worth while .. hehe.

They were in top form (although I never seen them as "off") and the crowd was more insane than usual. The "raining blood" effect was pretty cool but from what i hear not visible from further back in the venue (got some good shots of the cleanup process of this :) )

The set list was littered with classics ...

Disciple
War Ensamble
Fight till Death
Mandatory Suicide
Hallowed Point
Dead Skin Mask
Hell Awaits
At Dawn they Sleep
Necrophiliac
Stain of Mind
South of Heaven
Bloodline
Seasons in the Abyss
Chemical Warfare
Die by the Sword
Angel of Death
Postmortem
Raining Blood

My friend had a camera with him, and we got some good shots ... will post some later

Killswitch is a surprisingly good band live ... a little goofy in their stage presence, but good solid riffing and the crowd was into them.

Mastodon, I missed unfotunatelly ... i walked in literally as they were going off the stage, but they got a good reaction from what I could tell.

But Slayer, just never ceases to amaze me ... 40 years old and still all out, heads down fucking assault. I cannot imagine them doing this much longer, so catch them if you can on this tour.

Im surprised you are up so early, my ears would still be ringing.
they still are ... i can't hear shit. all I hear is Lombardo's kick drum in my head.
i could barely go to sleep last night. As beat as I was, the adrenaline was so high ... i was just wired.

Did you have to work? Or just couldnt sleep? it used to take me days for the ringing to go away, even with ear plugs.

I should go, but my ears have had it, and I cant stand the inbred punks that show up, and idiots like Erik whom argue with me for looking non metal, as if I must buy some band t shirts, and wear my hair long to fit in. Last time I went I came out covered with blood, as some fucker tried moshing around me, hit me in the face, I hit him back in the nose ahwell it was good violent time. I hear they arent doing the raining blood thing in cincy anyway, and theres is the only tour I ever bother to go see for the aformentioned reasons.

My experience there has been just the opposite. The venue is OK. Kind of on the level of the old Birch Hill, just bigger (2,800 capacity). For whatever reason, shows in NJ are never as good as shows in Philly or NYC. The crowds aren't as cool and the bands aren't as juiced. If I have my choice between seeing a show at the Starland or the Troc, it's a no-brainer.

As for the bouncers, I was BSing with a few of them at the CoF show. They seemed relatively cool and laid back.
